Lady Bobcats earn big district wins

The Eunice High School Lady Bobcats improved their overall record to 12-6 and district mark to 3-2 with a 56-25 victory over the Port Barre Lady Red Devils in District 5-3A action at the Eunice High gym.
The Lady Bobcats jumped out to an early lead in the contest jumping out to 12-5 first quarter advantage behind the scoring of Stacie White with five points.
Coach Wayne Fontenot’s Lady Cats outscored the Lady Devils in the second quarter by a 15-7 margin, giving the Lady Cats a halftime lead of 27-12.
Shanyia Toussaint led the way for the Lady Cats in the second quarter with eight points, all of which came on drives to the goal.
The Lady Bobcats continued to expand their lead in the third quarter thanks to the scoring of Jesslyn Reed, who scored six points as the Lady Bobcats outscored Port Barre by a 19-8 margin.
Leah Walker contributed four points for the Lady Cats in the third quarter.
The Lady Bobcats outscored the Lady Red Devils 10-5 in the fourth quarter, with White hitting a 3-point field goal and driving to the goal to lead the scoring with five points.
White led the way in scoring for Eunice with 18 points, with Toussaint adding 14 and Walker contributing 10 points.
Top scorer for Port Barre was Mikah Compton with 11 points.
Eunice travels Friday to visit Pine Prairie in district play.
The Lady Cats earned a 52-29 victory over Church Point last Friday.
The Lady Bobcats jumped out to an early lead in the contest thanks to a 17-5 lead after one quarter.
Eunice extended their lead by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs by a 12-7 margin in the second quarter to hold a 29-12 halftime advantage.
The Lady Cats continued to dominant the game in the third quarter by outscoring Church Point by a 14-5 margin.
The Lady Bears claimed a 12-9 advantage in the final period, but the Lady Cats captured a 52-29 victory.
White led the Lady Bobcats in scoring for the game with 23 points, including 11 points in the first quarter. Toussaint also hit the double digit mark in scoring for Eunice with 15 points.
Church Point freshman Jazmine Boudreaux led the scoring for the Lady Bears with 19 points. Montaia Citizen and Tra’Nassia Citizen finished with four points apiece for the Lady Bulldogs.

PBHS 63, Eunice 46
The Port Barre Red Devils broke open a close game in the second half to down Eunice by a 63-46 margin in District 5-3A action that took place in the Bobcat gym.
Port Barre took a slight lead in the opening quarter, outscoring the Bobcats by a 12-8 margin.
The Bobcats (4-11) came to life in the second quarter to outscore the Red Devils by a 14-11 margin, heading into halftime trailing by a 23-22 margin.
The Bobcats kept within striking distance through most of the third quarter, pulling within three points of Port Barre at 36-33 with just over two minutes left in the quarter.
But the Red Devils would go on a 6-2 run over the final two minutes to head into the fourth quarter with a 42-35 advantage over the Bobcats. The Red Devils would slowly increase their lead over the final eight minutes of action to outscore the Bobcats by a 21-11 for the quarter and give the Red Devils the victory.
Port Barre’s Kolby Barlow led the scoring for the Red Devils with 18 points. Barlow hit six of six from the free throw line. Kyeron Malveaux finished with 17 points for Port Barre, while Kentrell Jackson and Deandre Chavis contributed nine and eight points, respectively.
Leading scorers for the Bobcats were Jordan Ledet and Carlin Vigers with 11 points apiece. Keithan Monday added eight points.
The Bobcats, who fell to 4-11 overall with the loss, will travel to take on Pine Prairie on Friday
Eunice used a 20-point third quarter rally on their way to a 70-57 victory over the Church Point High Bears in District 5-3A play last Friday.
The Bobcats took the early lead by outscoring the Bears by a 15-10 margin in the first quarter behind nine points from Vigers, but the Bears would outscore the Bobcats by an 18-16 margin in the second quarter thanks to an eight-point quarter by Leon Smith, allowing the Bears to pull within three points at the half (31-28).
In the third quarter, the Bobcats dominated the play by outscoring Church Point by a 20-10 margin.
Kobe Doucet led the Bobcat offense in the third quarter with six points, including one goal from beyond the three-point arc. The Cats entered the fourth quarter with a 51-38 lead.
The Bobcats would make that lead stand as each team scored 19 points over the final eight minutes of play, allowing the Bobcats to claim the victory.
Vigers finished the game with 34 points to lead all scorers. Vigers was key at the foul line in the final quarter, making eight of ten free throws to go along with three field goals. Doucet added 11 points for the Bobcats and Tim Jones chipped in with nine points.
Smith led the Bears in scoring with 20 points. Trent White finished with 14 points for the Bears.
