Lady Bulldogs head to state

IOTA – It was a fight to the finish but when the smoke had cleared in overtime, the Lady Bulldogs advanced to the Class 3-A state semifinals after Iota earned a 71-64 win over Madison Thursday night.
With the win, the No. 2 Lady Bulldogs will face No. 6 Albany at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Southeastern Louisiana’s University Center in Hammond.
Albany upset No. 3 Winfield, 59-58 to advance to the semifinals.
Iota opened the game with an 19-14 run, sparked by four treys by the Lady Dogs.
Whitney Landry hit two three-pointers, while Avery Wriborg and Kendall Miller added one each.
Za’Terrica Williams scored seven points in the period to lead the Lady Jaguars.
Madison exploded for a 17-5 surge in the second period to grab a 31-24 advantage at intermission.
Markayla Cooper scored 10 points including two treys for the Lady Jaguars.
Iota was limited to a trey by Wriborg and two free throws from Miller as the Lady Bulldogs struggled to score in the second period.
Iota regrouped for a 17-11 third period run to close the gap to 42-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
Landry pushed in six points for the Lady Dogs, while Gatte added five more points to help begin Iota’s comeback.
The Lady Dogs outscored Madison 18-17 in the fourth quarter to force the overtime period.
Wriborg scored eight points and Madison Oliver scored five points in the quarter.
Iota closed the game strong as the Lady Bulldogs outscored Madison 13-5 in the overtime period.
Wriborg scored five points including her fourth trey of the game to finish with 22 points.
Landry also added five points including her fourth three-pointer to close with 22 points.
Gatte hit a free thow in the OT to finish with 11 points.
Gatte also had six rebounds, seven assists, three steals and a blocked shot.
Wriborg had six rebound, five assists and a steal.
Landry finished with 12 rebounds, five assists and blocked shot.
Oliver chipped in 10 points as the fourth Iota player to finish in double figures. Olivier finished with 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots.

VILLE PLATTE – The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs rolled to 77-39 quarterfinal win over Iowa.
With the win, Ville Platte now moves on to the Top 28 Tournament for the fourth time in the last seven years.
The Lady Bulldogs will take on the No. 1 seeded South Beauregard Lady Knights 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the semi-finals
After the first four minutes of play, Ville Platte owned a 10-2 lead over the Lady Yellow Jackets.
Ville Platte used the rest of the first quarter to go on an 11-9 run, making the score 21-11 as the period ended.
The second quarter summed up the total domination the Lady Bulldogs had as .Ville Platte outscored the Lady Yellow Jackets 28-2.
Iowa’s only score came on a buzzer beating basket as time expired.
In the third quarter with reserves playing, the Lady Bulldogs were outpaced 15-14 by Iowa, but still led 63-28.
In the final quarter, Ville Platte opened up a 47-point advantage to lead 77-40 at the 2:22 mark of the period.
With all bench players in for the Lady Bulldogs in the last two minutes of the game, Iowa was able to reel off the final nine points of the game.
