Lady Cats close district with win

MAMOU – The Eunice Lady Bobcats closed District 5-3A competition with a 48-37 victory over the Mamou Lady Demons.
The LHSAA will release the playoff brackets on Monday.
Presently the Lady Cats (16-11) are No. 16 in the Class 3-A power rankings.
Other teams in the district who will earn a playoff berth include No. 4 Northwest (23-9), No. 7 Iota (21-12), No. 17 Pine Prairie (20-11) and No. 25 Crowley (14-13).
Eunice jumped out to a 20-8 first quarter advantage over Mamou as the Lady Cats controlled the game from the opening tip.
Leah Walker and Jesslyn Reed scored five points each in the first quarter for the Lady Cats, while Stacie White pushed in four points before leaving the game with an injury.
Lady Cat Shaynia Toussaint also scored four points in the first period, while J’lisa Thibeaux added two free throws.
The two defenses took over in the second frame as Eunice out scored Mamou, 7-4.
Toussaint drilled a trey for the Lady Cats, while Walker added a bucket and Reed pushed in two free throws.
Trailing 27-12 at the break, Mamou regrouped to make a 13-10 run in the third quarter.
Brianna Thibodeaux scored five points including at trey and Markaysha Johnson added four points to help the Lady Demons close the gap to 12 points.
Toussaint scored eight points and Hailey Sonnier added a bucket as Eunice took a 37-25 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Mamou continued to battle in the final period, out scoring EHS, 12-11.
Johnson scored six points including four free throws in the fourth quarter to lead Mamou with 10 points.
Chandler Guillory, Thibodeaux and Dacia Richard added two points each in the period for the Lady Demons.
Toussaint scored three points, Sonnier drilled a trey while Reed and Walker each added a bucket for the Lady Cats.
Toussaint led Eunice with 18 points, while Reed and Walker both finished with nine points.

Mamou 66, Eunice 46
MAMOU – The Green Demons halted Eunice High’s five-game district win streak as Mamou rolled to a 66-46 win over the Bobcats.
Eunice (9-14, 7-5) opened the game with an 11-9 lead, aided by five points from Divine Hampton.
Mamou (12-19, 5-7) was led in the first frame with seven points from Leandre Harrison.
The Green Demons went on a 26-8 run in the second period as Mamou took a 33-19 advantage into the locker room.
Kyrin Green exploded for 13 points in the quarter to lead the Green Demons, while Harrison chipped in seven points.
Mykal Moore pushed in seven of the Bobcats’ eight points in the quarter.
Mamou kept the offensive barrage going with 19 points in the third quarter.
Brian Thomas pushed in seven points for the Demons, while Harrison added six points.
Eunice scored 11 points in the third period, led by Moore’s seven points along with buckets from Carlin Vigers and Corneilus Lewis.
The Bobcats continued to battle as Eunice closed the game with a 16-12 fourth quarter run.
Avery Lee scored seven points, while Simeon Ardoin added a three-pointer.
Moore, Terrance Shilow and Fred Highsmith also scored a bucket for the Bobcats in the quarter.
Harrison hit a trey for the Demons to finish with 23 points on the night.
Thomas and Green also added buckets to finish with 15 points each for the Demons.
Eunice entertains district leader Northwest Monday night before closing the regular season at Iota Thursday.
