Lady Cats finish third in parish tourney

The Eunice High Lady Bobcats grabbed a 42-32 win over the Opelousas Lady Tigers for a third place finish in the St. Landry Parish basketball tournament held at EHS gym.
The Lady Bobcats (9-4) took an 11-9 lead after the first quarter with Stacie White, Shanyia Toussaint, and Shania Malveaux leading the scoring.
The Lady Bobcats extended their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers 7-4 to head into halftime with an 18-13 advantage.
White led the charge in the second quarter with five points.
The Lady Bobcats scored 12 points and the Lady Tigers scored 10 in the third quarter, with the Lady Cats holding a 30-23 lead as the two teams headed to the fourth quarter.
White led the Eunice scoring in the third quarter with eight points, six of which came from beyond the 3-point arc.
Malveaux added four points for the Lady Cats in the third quarter.
The Lady Bobcats secured the victory in the fourth quarter thanks to a 12-9 advantage over the Lady Tigers.
Malveaux and Jesslyn Reed led the scoring for the Lady Cats in the fourth quarter with four points apiece.
Top scorers for the Lady Tigers, who fell to 8-7 for the season, were Devonte Johnson and Kaitlyn Auzenne with 13 and 10 points respectively.
White topped the scoring for the Lady Bobcats with 21 points. Malveaux contributed 10 points, while Toussaint finished with five and Reed with four points.

Eunice 37, PBHS 35
Eunice High’s Dylan Miller scored a field goal in the final 15 seconds and then added a free throw to lift the Bobcats to a 37-35 win over Port Barre in the consolation game of the St. Landry Parish tournament.
The game was close from the beginning as Eunice held a 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The two teams battled to a 8-8 tie in the second period as EHS took a 16-15 advantage into the break.
The Red Devils took the lead 29-24 at the end of the third quarter, but the Bobcats outscored Port Barre 13-6 in the final period.
Mykal Moore led Eunice with 14 points.
Eunice and Port Barre played for the boys’ championship in 2015 as the Bobcats grabbed a 48-45 win.
