Lady Cats grab key win

ELTON – The Eunice High School Lady Bobcats continued their hot start Wednesday at the Elton High Basketball Tournament with a 48-45 victory over the Westlake High Lady Rams.
Eunice head coach Wayne Fontenot was pleased with his team’s play after they trailed the Lady Rams by a 15-9 margin at the end of the first quarter and trailed by a 22-19 margin at the half.
“We battled to stay in the game with some good defense and then outscored them by a 15-5 margin in the third quarter to take a 34-27 lead into the fourth quarter.”
Westlake outscored the Lady Cats by an 18-14 margin in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Rams weren’t able to overcome the seven point advantage that the Lady Cats had heading into the final eight minutes of the game.
Stacie White helped propel the Lady Cats in the fourth quarter with eight points, including a goal from beyond the 3-point arc. Jesslyn Reed added four points with a field goal and two free throws and Leah Walker had a field goal to account for the Lady Cats 14 points in the fourth quarter.
White, who finished the game with 28 points, was a big factor in the Lady Bobcats’ crucial 15-point third quarter. White scored nine points, all coming from three goals beyond the three-point arc. Walker, Shania Malveaux, and Shanyia Toussaint each contributed field goals in the third quarter. Walker finished the game with eight points and Reed added six.
Jada Gasaway scored 10 for the Lady Rams.

VPHS 67, Eunice boys 53
VILLE PLATTE – The Eunice High Bobcats dropped a 67-53 decision to the Ville Platte High Bulldogs in basketball action Wednesday at the Bulldogs’ gym.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats fell behind in the early going against the Bulldogs.
With Tyran Jones leading the way with seven points, the Bulldogs managed an 18-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. MyKal Moore scored five points to lead the Bobcats in the first quarter.
The Bobcats bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs by a 13-11 margin.
Moore scored nine points to lead the Cats in that quarter. Moore had two field goals and added five of five free throws in five attempts at the line.
Carlin Vigers and Kobe Doucet chipped in with two points apiece for the Bobcats.
Jones and Terran Roy had four points apiece for the Bulldogs, who led 29-23 at halftime.
The Bobcats closed the gap a bit in the third quarter, with Moore leading the way with eight points.
Dylan Miler scored four points in the quarter for the Bobcats, who outscored the Bulldogs by a 17-16 margin to close the within five points at 45-40 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs pulled away from the Bobcats in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bobcats by a 17-13 margin.
Ville Platte was led in the fourth quarter by Ernest Roberts with seven points, while Jones added five points.
Deandre Courville and Vigers led the fourth-quarter scoring for the Bobcats with four and three points, respectively.
Moore led the Bobcats in scoring for the game with 22 points. Vigers finished with 12 points.
The top scorer for the Bulldogs was Tyran Jones with 25 points.
Roberts added 13 points for the Bulldogs.
Eunice fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss.
