Lady Cats improve to 11-1 on season

The Eunice High softball improved to 11-1 on the season with a pair of one-sided wins this week.
Before heading into the St. Edmund tournament this weekend, the Lady Bobcats had won 11 games in a row after the season opening 13-6 loss to Port Barre.
EHS 13, W-Marion 3
Eunice cruised to a 13-3 Mercy-rule win over Washington-Marion to improve to 2-0 in District 4-4A action.
The Lady Cats jumped to a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning, begun when Sophie Vidrine doubled, Gabby Mitchell singled and Olivia Thibodeaux walked to load the bases.
Mckenzie Guillory ripped a three-RBI double to clear the bases for a 3-0 Lady Cat lead.
Washington-Marion closed the gap to 3-1 in the top of the second when Kyrsten Hayes singled and scored on a hit by Aali’Ja Bias.
Eunice responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame begun when Carli Boone walked and scored on a triple by Alexis Ortego who later crossed home on a W-M error.
The Lady Cats added a run in the bottom of the third when Guillory walked and courtesy runner Mallory O’Brien scored on a sacrifice by Reagan Fontenot.
The Lady Indians scored twice in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 6-3.
Hayes singled and scored on a double by Haley Savoie.
Savoie scored on a triple by Bias.
Eunice answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame when S. Lemelle and Vidrine walked and Mitchell reached on an error to load the bases.
Olivia Thibodeaux rapped a two-out double to left field to score Vidrine and Mitchell as the Lady Cats pushed ahead, 8-3.
Eunice sealed the win with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Ortego singled, while Vidrine and Mitchell both walked to load the bases.
Ortego scored on a fly-out by Thibodeaux and Guillory doubled in Vidrine for a 10-3 advantage.
Pate reached on a walk to keep the rally going before Mitchell crossed home on a passed ball.
Boone singled in O’Brien and Pate for the game’s final two runs.
Caroline Vienne earned the win as she struck out seven and allowed three earned runs on six hits over six innings.
The Lady Cats finished with 10 hits led by Guillory (2-for-3, BB, 4 RBIs), Ortego (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, 2 RS), Vidrine (2-for-3, BB, 3 RS), and Mitchell (2-for-3, BB, 3 RS).
Boone (1-for-3, BB, 2 RBIs, RS) and Thibodeaux (1-for-2, 2 BB, 2 RBIs, RS) also added hits for the Lady Cats.

EHS 15, Gueydan 0
Eunice pitcher Vienne threw a no hitter and the Lady Cat offense exploded for a 15-0 mercy-rule win over Gueydan.
Vienne struck out two and only threw 32 pitches over three innings against Gueydan.
Eunice scored three runs in the first inning, begun when Ortego, Vidrine, Guillory and Alissa Pate were all hit by pitches to begin the game.
Ortego scored when Pate was plunked with the bases loaded, while Vidrine and courtesy runner O’Brien both scored on a passed ball.
With a 3-0 advantage, the Lady Cats broke the game with 12 runs in the second inning.
Boone walked, Lemelle was hit by a pitch and both scored when Ortego singled to right fielder.
Vidrine singled to keep the rally going and Mitchell followed with a two-RBI single as EHS pushed ahead, 7-0.
Thibodeaux walked and
Guillory ripped a triple to that plated two more runs.
O’Brien scored when Fontenot reached on an error.
Pate was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single by Lemelle as the Lady Cats increased their lead to 11-0.
Fontenot reached on an error, Boone walked and both scored on a hit to centerfield by Mitchell.
The game’s final two runs occurred when Lemelle singled, Thibodeaux walked and Guillory recorded a two-out hit to center.
Gueydan finished with six hit batters, four walks and allowed eight earned runs on seven hits.
Guillory went 2-for-2 with four RBIs.
Mitchell finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored.

EHS Bobcats 10, Kinder 8
Eunice jumped out to a 7-1 advantage and the Bobcats held on for a 10-8 win over Kinder in the opening game of the 20th annual John. R. Young/Frey Holding Company baseball tournament.
The Yellowjackets scored first in the top of the second inning when Landon Richard walked and scored on a Bobcat error.
Eunice grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning, begun when Dylan Darbonne walked and crossed home plate on bunt by Hudson Manuel. Manuel later scored on a fly-out by Evan Fruge.
The Bobcats exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third, sparked when Zach Suire singled, Jahiem Mitchell reached on an error and Darbonne blasted a home run over the centerfield wall.
Manuel doubled and scored when Braden Rider reached on an error and later crossed home on a double by Fruge as the Bobcats pushed ahead, 7-1.
Kinder closed the gap in the top of the fourth when Richard walked and scored on a passed ball. Trystan Pope walked and scored on a ground out by Kobe Burns as the Yellowjackets trailed 7-3.
Eunice answered with a run in the bottom of the inning as D. Guillory singled and scored on a hit by Mitchell.
Kinder closed the gap to 8-4 in the top of the fifth when Landon Schmitz singled and scored on a double by Grant Cooley.
The Bobcats responded with a run in the bottom of the frame when Rider walked and pinch runner Gaige Miller scored on a sacrifice by Dru Phillips.
Kinder scored four runs in the sixth inning, aided by doubles from L. Lebouef, Schmitz and Richard and a single by Cooley.
Eunice added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Mitchell singled and scored on a passed ball.
Mitchell earned the win for Bobcats as he allowed four runs on three hits, striking out five.
Rider and Price Myers entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Rider recorded the last four outs to earn the save for the Bobcats.
Eunice totaled nine hits, led by Manuel (2-for-3, RBI, 2 RS) and Mitchell (2-for-4, RBI, RS).
