In the third season of their existence, the Eunice High volleyball team is working hard to get better, according to head coach Wayne Fontenot.
“I’m very pleased with the team’s work ethic,” said Fontenot.
“Our goal for this season is to strive for excellence and the girls are working to achieve that goal.”
At practice this past Saturday, Fontenot was focused on teaching fundamentals.
“We’ve spent a lot of time on fundamentals of the game because we have a lot of young kids that are inexperienced.”
The team returns seniors Angelle Ortego, Raquel Bernard, Caroline Mire and Vivian Mire along with Maegan Granger.
Juniors Ali Rae Lejeune and Amya Johnwell also add experience to the line-up.
In addition to Lejeune and Johnwell, other juniors include Kelsea Aguillard, Justice James, Kelsey Ledoux and Maria Phillips.
Sophomores on the team include Jesslyn Reed, Sha’y Toussaint, Shelby Hill, Sara Higginbotham, and Kimberly Boullard.
Fontenot was pleased with his team’s competive effort earlier this season against Hamilton Christian.
“I believe that we will continue to improve as the season continues.”
Eunice travels to Opelousas High today and LaGrange on Monday.
The next home contest for the Eunice Lady Cats is Sept. 14 against Opelousas High.
