Lady Cats slip past Rayne in district opener

The Eunice Lady Bobcats opened District 4-4A play with a 7-6 win over Rayne.
Eunice (9-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Alexis Ortego walked and scored on a double by Olivia Thibodeaux.
The Lady Wolves tied the game in the top of the fourth when A. Comeaux doubled and later stole home.
In the bottom of the frame Lady Cats Alissa Pate walked, Raegan Fontenot reached on a fielder’s choice and Sydni Lemelle was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Pate advanced home on a walk by Ortego to give the Lady Cats a 2-1 advantage.
Rayne responded with three runs in the fifth to push ahead, 4-2.
E. Comeaux walked, C. Billings reached on an error and both scored on a triple by Marks.
Marks scored on an error to give the Lady Wolves a two run lead.
Eunice rallied for two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, 4-4.
Gabby Mitchell singled, Thibodeaux walked and Pate drew a walk to load the bases.
Mitchell scored when Fontenot reached on an error, while Pate stole home to tie the game.
Rayne grabbed a 6-4 lead in the top of the sixth on solo home runs by Peltier and Doucet.
The Lady Cats moved back in front in the bottom of the inning with three runs in the bottom of the inning, begun when Ortego tripled and stole home.
Mitchell walked and scored on a triple by Ortego to tie the game.
Guillory singled in Thibodeaux as Eunice moved ahead, 7-6.
EHS pitcher Caroline Vienne sealed the win with two strikeouts in the seventh inning.
Vienne struck out eight, walked three and allowed four earned runs on five hits.
Thibodeaux went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.
Eunice grabbed three wins in the Acadiana High tournament as the Lady Cats downed Delcambre (2-0), Hanson Memorial (9-7) and Carencro (19-6).
Vienne limited Delcambre to two hits with four strikeouts and a walk in the seven inning, complete game win.
Mitchell went 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored.
Eunice scored four runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to claim the win over Hanson Memorial.
Vienne earned the complete game win as she struck out two and allowed two earned runs on 10 hits.
Thibodeaux finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Ortego went 2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored, while Lemelle finished 1-for-3 with a three RBI triple and two runs scored.
Eunice exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh to seal the win over Carencro.
Vienne recorded her third complete game win of the weekend against the Lady Bears as she struck out six and allowed two earned runs on nine hits.
Eunice finished with 19 hits against Carencro, led by Mitchell (5-for-6, 7 RBIs and 5 RS), Fontenot (4-for-5, 3 RBIs, 2 RS), Guillory (3-for-5, RBI), Mallory O’Brien (2-for-5, RBI, RS) and Ortego (2-for-6, RS).
The Lady Cats entretain Washington-Marion at 5:30 p.m. Thursday as district action continues.
Eunice will participate in the St. Edmund tournament this weekend.
The Lady Cats will entertain St. Martinville at 4 p.m. Friday.
Saturday at Lady Jay Field, Eunice battle St. Edmund at 8 a.m.
The Lady Cats will take on Lake Charles College Prep at 4 p.m.
