Lady Demons slip past Port Barre

MAMOU – It took seven innings before any one scored and then two more to determine a winner.
Mamou’s Madison Fontenot doubled in the bottom of the ninth, advanced on a passed ball and then scored on a bunt by Dacia Richard as the Lady Demons grabbed a 2-1 win over Port Barre.
In the Class 3-A opening round battle between district rivals, No. 18 Port Barre (14-18) outhit No. 15 Mamou 7-4 but couldn’t push a run across until the top of the seventh inning when Mackenzie Hebert doubled and scored on an error.
The Lady Demons tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Richard doubled and courtesy runner Kylie Rider scored on a sacrifice fly by Terraline Fontenot.
Richard earned the complete-game win as she allowed one run on seven hits with six strikeouts.
Lady Devil pitcher Anna Disotell suffered the loss as she allowed one earned run on four hits with two strike outs.
Richard helped her own cause as she went 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Taylor Douget (1-for-3) and Fontenot (1-for-4, RS) accounted for the other Lady Demon hits.
Kennedi Aymond went 2-for-4 to lead Port Barre, while Hebert went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Mamou (19-13) will face another district rival 6 p.m. Friday as the Lady Demons travel to No. 2 Pine Prairie.
The Lady Panthers (30-4) rolled to a 20-0 win over No. 31 Wossman in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
