Lady Jays cruise to 13-0 win over Welsh

If it was the final softball game of the 2020 season, the St. Edmund Lady Jays went out with an impressive 13-0 mercy-rule win over Welsh.
With Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and the LHSAA halting spring sports until at least April 14, St. Edmund honored seniors Jaedyn Soileau, Kinsley Marcantel and Katelyn LaCour in a post game ceremony.
The Lady Jays scored a run in the bottom of the second, begun when Kennedy Ardoin and Anna Belle Fontenot were hit by pitches and Harlie Guillory walked to load the bases.
A RBI sacrifice by LaCour gave St. Ed’s a 1-0 advantage.
The Lady Jays exploded for six runs in the bottom of the second to move ahead, 7-0.
Mary Beth Lafleur walked and scored on a passed ball.
Marcantel walked and scored on a sacrifice by Anna Chapman.
Ardoin was hit by a pitch, while Fontenot’s sacrifice pushed across another run.
Guillory and LaCour both singled to keep the rally going and later scored as the Lady Jays offense continued its barrage.
St. Edmund went through the batting order in the bottom of the fourth as the Lady Jays scored six runs to put the game out of reach.
Marcantel opened with a single, stole second and third before scoring on a hit by Chapman.
Karleigh Soileau reached on an error that allowed Chapman to score, while Ardoin singled in courtesy runner Ellie Manuel.
A double by Fontenot drove in pinch runner No. 14
Guillory singled and LaCour walked to load the bases.
Jaedyn Soileau reached on a fielder’s choice as Fontenot was forced out at home plate.
Lafleur’s hit drove in Guillory, while Marcantel’s sacrifice fly to centerfield allowed LaCour to score the Lady Jays’ final run of the game.
Karleigh Soileau earned the win as she struck out eight, walked one and allowed one hit.
