Lady Jays cruise in district win

The Lady Jays picked up their second District 4-1A win of the season Friday as St. Edmund rolled to a 59-19 victory over Hamilton Christian Academy.
The Lady Jays (8-11, 2-4) eploded for a 27-4 run to open the game over the winless Lady Warriors (0-12, 0-5).
St. Ed’s went on a 13-0 surge, aided by seven points from Mary Beth Lafleur along with buckets off HCA turnovers by Tanzy Miller, Kinsley Marcantel and Savannah DeViller.
After a free throw by Lady Warrior Daijionna Smith with 4:54 left in the period, the Lady Jays answered with a 7-0 run including shots by Lafleur, DeVillier and Rebecca Benoit.
Smith hit a trey to close the margin to 20-4, but the Lady Jays closed the quarter with a 7-0 run sparked by five points from LaFleur.
Hamilton Christian battled early in the second period aided by bucket by Jones and trey from Jordan Ware to close the margin to 29-9.
Greta Miller, Anna Belle Fontenot and Kennedy Fruge pushed in buckets to help the Lady Jays move ahead, 33-19.
Two free throws from HCA’s Smith were answered by a put-back shot by Kennedy Fruge as the Lady Jays took a 35-11 lead into the intermission.
St. Edmund put the game away with a 17-0 third frame, begun when Rebecca Benoit and Miller scored in the lane.
DeVillier added a free throw and later added a put-back bucket, along with four points from Marcantel as SEH moved ahead 46-11.
The Lady Jays closed the quarter with four points from Lafleur and shots by Marcantel and DeVillier as SEH scored 52 points heading into the final period.
The Lady Warriors battled in the frame, outscoring the Lady Jays, 9-7.
Buckets by Smith and Ware was answered by a inside shot by Fontenot.
HCA’s Faith Camp drained a trey to excite the crowd before Fontenot responded with five points including a long range three-pointer.
Ware scored free throw in the final seconds to close the gap to 59-19.
Marcantel led the Lady Jays with 13 points, while Lafleur and Devillier both chipped in 11 points.
Smith led HCA with 11 points.
St. Edmund will entertain Merryville Tuesday as district play continues.

HCA 66, St. Ed’s 34
Hamilton Christian remained undefeated in District 4-1A action as the Warriors earned a 66-34 win over the St. Edmund Blue Jays.
The Warriors (13-6, 4-0) opened with a 7-0 run before Easton Coleman scored in the lane for the Blue Jays (2-11, 0-4).
Another 7-0 run by HCA, aided by five points from Calvin McEntire pushed the Warriors ahead, 14-2 midway through the first period.
Buckets by Henry Brown and Coleman helped the Jays close the margin to 14-6.
But a drive in the lane by Derrick Williams and a trey from McEntire extended the Warriors lead to 19-6 as the game moved to the second quarter.
Hamilton Christian exploded for a 10-2 run in the second period to put the game out of reach, 29-8.
Clay Miller scored the only Blue Jay points in the eriod with 33 seconds left in the first half.
The Warriors opened the third period with a 7-2 run, sandwiched around a bucket by Coleman.
Coleman later scored inside to close the Warriors’ gap to 36-12, but HCA then answered with an 8-0 surge including a trey by Zion Stewart.
Tyler Fonville scored in the lane for the Jays, but Adrian Brown responded with a long-range trey to push the Warriors up 47-14.
Coleman later scored in the paint, but the Warriors closed the period with a 6-0 run to take a 53-16 advantage into the final quarter.
Kendrick Fontenot scored three straight points for the Warriors before Alex Dupre psuhed in two free throws.
Luke Trahan added another from the line and Coleman later drove the lane to close the gap to 56-21 with 5:10 left.
The Warriors went on a 6-0 to push ahead, 62-21.
Coleman scored again in the lane and Alex Dupre converted a three-point play with 3:04 left.
The game ended with three straight treys including one from both Henry Brown and Trahan to close the final margin to 66-34.
Coleman finished with 14 points to lead the Blue Jays.
Adrian Brown led the Warriors with 18 points, while McEntire chipped in 11 points.
