Lady Jays dominate 4-1A All-District

The Lady Jays won its second consecutive district title and St. Edmund was rewarded with 10 players placed on the All-District 4-1A softball team list.
Lady Jay freshman pitcher Karleigh Soileau was named the district MVP as she finished with a 0.87 earned run average and also recorded a .468 batting average.
St. Edmund coach David Ardoin was selected as the district Coach of the Year as the Lady Jays finished 15-5 overall and 7-1 in district play.
No. 15 St. Edmund fell 8-4 in the first round of the Division IV playoffs to eventual champion Catholic High of Pointe Coupee.
Along with Soileau, other first team pitchers incuded McKenzie Samuel from Merryvile, South Cameron’s Karlee Nunez and Courtnie Gallow from Oberlin.
Lady Jay Kinsley Marcantel was named first team catcher, while senior Olivia Clark was selected first team third baseman.
Karleigh Hudson was selected as first team first baseman.
Grand Lake’s Mia Daigle was named first team second baseman, joined by first team shortstop Alyssa Duncan from Merryville.
First team outfielders included Josie Ogea and Kailey Murrell from Grand Lake along with Emma Johnson from Oberlin and Merryville’s Brylee Lanier.
St. Ed’s Jaedyn Soileau and Anna Belle Fontenot were named first team ulitity players.
Other ulitilty player selections were Kailey Murrell from Grand Lake, South Cameron’s Nunez and Amber Perkins from Oberlin.
Second team pitchers were Jordyn Stickell from Grand Lake, Merryville’s Riley Dyson, Emma Johnson from Oberlin and South Cameron’s Shelby Welch.
Harleigh Ferguson from Merryville was selected as second team catcher, while South Cameron’s Marley Thibodeaux was named second team first baseman.
St. Ed’s Kennedy Ardoin was named second team second baseman, while Laney Hampton from Grand Lake was selected as second team third baseman.
South Cameron’s Shyla Duplechain was named second team shortstop.
St. Ed’s Mary Beth Lafleur was selected as a second team outfielder along with Haley Perkins from Oberlin and Grand Lake’s Claire Zaunbrecher.
Lady Jay Jacee Cobb was selected as second team ultilty player, joined by Oberlin’s Katelyn Pitre and Laken Alexander.
Kelli Ledoux from Grand Lake and South Cameron’s Brynn Hardie were also named as second team utlity players.
St. Edmund’s Kaitlyn Lacour and Rebecca Benoit were named to the Honorable Mention list along with Cassidy Keller from Grand Lake.
In the Class 1-A state playoffs, No. 8 Oberlin (10-14, 5-3) and No. 9 Grand Lake (11-13, 3-5) both earned first round byes before the two rivals met in the regional round.
Grand Lake defeated Oberlin 10-9 before falling 13-1 to top-seed and eventual state runners-up LaSalle.
No. 11 Merryville (9-11, 4-4) earned a 7-0 win over No. 22 Varnado to open the playoffs and the Lady Panthers added a 7-3 upset win over No. 6 Gueydan before falling 8-0 to No. 3 Montgomery in the quarterfinals.
No. 14 South Cameron (5-20, 1-7) opened the playoffs with a 17-0 win over No. 19 Delhi before losing 12-0 to Montgomery.
