The Lady Jays broke a close game open with five runs in the sixth inning as St. Edmund grabbed an 8-1 win over the Eunice Lady Bobcats.
St. Ed’s scored a run in the bottom of the second inning as Harlie Guillory doubled and pinch runner Mary Helen Miller scored when Kennedy Ardoin reached on an error.
The Lady Jays added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth begun when Ardoin singled and scored on a sacrifice by Alice Brown.
Anna Chapman singled and later crossed home plate on a passed ball to push St. Edmund up, 3-0.
Anna Belle Fontenot hit a solo home run to begin the Lady Jays’ sixth inning surge.
Chapman doubled scored on a hit by Madison Comeau.
Mary Beth Lafleur reached on an error and Karleigh Soileau walked to load the bases.
Jenna Smith singled in Comeau, while Lafleur scored on a hit by Guillory to push the Lady Jays ahead, 7-0.
Guillory singled in St. Ed’s final run before the Lady Cats scored a run in the top of the seventh when Gabby Mitchell walked and scored on a hit to centerfield by Jailyn Pavich.
Soileau was dominate in the circle as she struck out 14, walked two and allowed one run on three hits.
Smith went 3-for-4 with one RBI, Guillory finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and Chapman went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Pavich and Alexis Ortgo recorded the two Lady Cat hits.
In the other two games of the Lady Jay tournament, St. Edmund earned wins over Erath (6-4) and Marksville (16-6),
Ardoin grabbed the win over Erath as she struck out three, walked three and scattered three hits over six innings.
In the victory over St. Martinville, Soileau struck out 11, walked one and allowed one earned run on five hits over six innings.
The Lady Jays walked 11 times as St. Ed’s finished with nine hits and 10 RBI.
Lafleur went 2-for-4 with two walks, two RBIs and a run scored.
Ardoin finished 2-for-4 with two walks, a RBI with four runs scored.
St. Edmund (10-0) opens District 5-1A play Thursday at Westminster Christian Academy.
Eunice opened the weekend’s tournament with a 14-4 win over St. Martinville.
Caroline Vienne struck out 10 batters and allowed two earned runs on seven hits.
Sophie Vidrine went 3-for-3 with a walk and run scored for the Lady Cats, while Alissa Pate finished 2-for-2 with two walksm four RBIs and two runs scored.
After the loss to St. Edmund, the Lady Cats earned a 12-1 win over Lake Charles College Prep.
