The Lady Jay offense scored five runs in the fourth inning and pitcher Karleigh Soileau threw a one-hitter as St. Edmund earned a 5-0 win over Lafayette Christian Academy.
With the win, St. Edmund improved to 7-0 on the season.
The Lady Jays entertain North Vermilion on Monday and Lake Charles College Prep on Tuesday before opening District 5-1A play at Westminster Christian Academy on Thursday.
St. Edmund is presently ranked No. 2 in the LHSAA Div. IV power rankings.
The Lady Jays threatened in the bottom of the first when Mary Beth Lafleur singled but she could not score.
Madison Comeau singled in the third inning, but she was left stranded at second base.
St. Edmund finally broke the game open in the fourth frame, begun when Jenna Smith and Harlie Guillory both singled and Kenndy Ardoin advanced on a dropped third strike.
Smith scored on a LCA error, while Guillory crossed home plate on a bases-loaded hit by Anna Belle Fontenot.
The Lady Jays moved ahead 4-0 on a two-RBI hit by Madison Comeaux.
Fontenot scored on a hit to centerfield by Lafleur to increase St. Ed’s margin to 5-0.
Soileau retired 19 batters in a row including 10 strikeouts before Mikah Thibodeaux singled in the top of the seventh inning.
Lafleur finished 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Comeau went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
