Lady Jays earn shut out win

Lady Jay pitchers Karleigh Soileau and Jaedyn Soileau combined for a two-hit shut out and the St. Edmund offense exploded for a 15-0 District 4-1A mercy-rule win over Grand Lake.
Grand Lake (1-7, 0-5) threatend in the top of the first when Marlee Boudreaux singled and Kailey Murrell walked, but two strikeouts by Karliegh Soileau stopped the rally.
After missing a scoring opportunity in the bottom of the first, the Lady Jays (7-9, 3-1) exploded for nine runs in the second inning as 13 St. Edmund batters came to the plate.
Abby Miller singled and later stole home.
Olivia Clark singled stole second and scored on a bunt by Mary Beth Lafleur.
Olivia McDaniel walked and then Jaeydn Soileau and Gabby Fontenot followed with doubles.
McDaniel was caught in a run down at third, but Lafleur scored on Fontenot’s hit.
Kinsley Marcantel ripped another double to plate Soileau and Fontenot as the Lady Jays led, 5-0.
Maggie Larriviere then doubled in Marcantel and later stole home.
Miller walked, stole third and then scored on Clark’s double to push the Lady Jays ahead, 8-0.
Clark scored on a hit by McDaniel to extend the lead to nine runs.
Grand Lake’s Kelli Ledoux tripled with two-outs the top of the third but was left stranded.
St. Edmund added fivemore runs in the bottom of the third for a 14-0 lead.
Gabby Fontenot walked and scored on a double by Anna Belle Fontenot.
Larriviere walked and was replaced by pinch runner Jamie Fuselier.
Dustie Deshotel walked to load the bases and then Miller was hit by a pitch to plate Anna Belle Fontenot.
Clark bunted her way on and then McDaniel ripped a bases-clearing triple to drive in Deshotel, Miller and Clark.
In the bottom of the fourth, Larrivere walked, Deshotel was hit by a pitch and Miller walked to load the bases.
Clark then singled in Larriviere to earn the game ending run.
St. Edmund finished with 15 hits on the game, led by Clark’s 4-for-4, 2 RBI outing.
Fontenot finished 3-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and two runs scored.
McDaniel went 2-for-2 with a walk and four RBI.
Karleigh Soileau struck out five and allowed two hits and a walk over three innings.
Jaedyn Soileau threw 12 pitches in the fourth inning as she forced three ground outs in the frame.
St. Edmund travels to district foe South Cameron (5-5, 2-1) on Monday before visiting Beau Chene Tuesday.
