Lady Jays grab win

VILLE PLATTE – St. Edmund opened with a 21-10 surge as the Lady Jays rolled to a 54-30 win over rival Sacred Heart of Ville Platte.
Mary Beth Lafleur drained four treys in the first quarter as Savannah DeVillier and Rebecca Benoit both scored four points.
Taylor Darbonne led the Lady Trojans with five points and Kali Shiver pushed in four points in the period.
The Lady Jays added to its margin with a 14-10 second quarter run as St. Edmund held a 35-22 advantage at intermission.
Lafleur added two more three pointers as Greta Miller and Mary Helen Miller also chipped in treys in the period.
Kali Shiver scored four points and A. Shiver contributed three points for the Lady Trojans.
St. Edmund put the game away with an 11-2 third quarter surge, sparked by four points each from Anna Belle Fontenot and DeVillier.
Benoit added three points as the Lady Jays took a 46-24 lead into the final quarter.
Jodi Landry hit two free throws for the only Lady Trojan points in the third frame.
The two defenses controlled the final quarter as St. Ed’s outscored Sacred Heart, 8-6.
Madison Comeau and Fontenot both scored four points in the period for the Lady Jays.
Darbonne hit a trey and Kali Shiver added two free throws for SHVP.
Lafleur finished with 18 points, Benoit and Fontenot chipped in nine points and DeVillier added eight points.
Kali Shiver and Darbonne led Sacred Heart with 10 points each.
The Lady Jays (9-5) host Opelousas Catholic (8-5) Friday.

SHVP 68, SEH 64
VILLE PLATTE – Sacred Heart outscored the Blue Jays 9-5 in overtime as the Trojans grabbed a 68-64 win over St. Edmund.
The Trojans opened with a 19-17 first quarter advantage, led by nine points from Bryce Deville.
Easten Coleman helped the Jays keep it close with 10 points.
The battle for control continued in the second quarter as SHVP out-gained St. Ed’s 11-10.
Deville drilled two treys and added a free throw to help the Trojans take a 30-27 lead into intermission.
Henry Brown scored four points and Coleman drained a trey for the Jays in the period.
Sacred Heart scored 16 points in the third period, aided by seven points from Austin Darbonne and five points by Chase Tate.
Coleman hit another trey, while Luke Trahan and Ian Dupre added two points each for the Jays.
St. Edmund rallied for 22 points in the fourth quarter to force the overtime period.
Coleman and Trahan both scored six points, while team mate Kieran Davis added five points in the quarter.
A trey by Brown and a bucket by Alex Fontenot also helped the Blue Jay comeback.
Sacred Heart pushed in 13 points in the fourth quarter, including seven points by Tate.
Sacred Heart’s nine points in overtime included four free throws by Deville, who finished with 26 points.
Darbonne scored three points in the period to close with 17 points, while Tate chipped in 16 points on the night.
Coleman hit three free throws in overtime to finish with 25 points.
Brown added two free throws to finish with 12 points.
Davis chipped in 11 points for the Jays in the loss.
