Lady Jays grab win over Elton

ELTON – The Lady Jays jumped out to a 12-5 first quarter lead Thursday night as St. Edmund grabbed a 52-40 win over Elton.
Mary Beth Lafleur drilled two treys, Greta Miller added two buckets and Savannah DeVillier hit tow free throws to help the Lady Jays’ early lead.
Victoria Woods scored three points and Mariah Lemoine added a bucket for the Lady Indians’ first quarter points.
St. Ed’s out scored Elton 13-9 in the second quarter as the Lady Jays took a 25-14 advantage into the intermission.
Lafleur drained two more three pointers, Rebecca Benoit added three points and DeVillier hit a bucket in the period for the Lady Jays.
Woods scored three points, while Nya Francis, Laylah Fontenot and Lemoine each added a bucket for the Lady Indians.
The game tightened up in the third frame as Elton out scored St. Edmund, 11-10.
Devillier hit a trey and added three more points to lead the Lady Jays in the period, while Tanzy Miller and Anna Belle Fontenot each scored a bucket to help St. Ed’s take a 35-25 lead into the final quarter.
Lemoine scored five points and Woods chipped in four points to help the Lady Indians in the third period and the Elton duo continued their scoring in the fourth quarter.
St. Edmund sealed the win with a 17-15 upper hand in the final period, sparked by six points from Benoit.
Fontenot and Lafleur each contributed four points each, while DeVillier added three points for the Lady Jays in the quarter.
Woods scored nine points in the period to finish with 18 points as the top Elton scorer.
Francis hit a trey to close with seven points, while Lemoine added a free throw to finish with 10 points.
Lafleur led the Lady Jays with 16 points, including five three-pointers.
Devillier chipped in 13 points, while Benoit added nine points.
Anna Belle Fontenot and Greta Miller contributed six points each.
St. Edmund (2-1) travels to Notre Dame on Monday before entertaining Pine Prairie on Thursday.
