Lady Jays remain perfect

OAKDALE – The Lady Jays improved to 5-0 on the season as St. Edmund grabbed three wins over the weekend at the Oakdale softball tournament.
St. Edmund opened the Lady Warrior tournament with a hard-fought 12-10 victory over South Beauregard.
The Lady Jays scored a run in the top of the first when Jaedyn Soileau singled to left field and crossed home plate on a hit by Anna Chapman.
South Beauregard responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning begun when Makenna Rutherford walked, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.
Morgan Eaves walked, Chesney Harst singled as Eaves scored on a Lady Jay error to push South Beauregard ahead, 2-1.
Harst stole second and scored on a hit to left field by Alyssa Cloessner as the Lady Knights moved ahead, 3-1.
St. Edmund exploded for five runs in the top of the second inning, begun when Harley Guullory singled, while Jaedyn Soileau walked and Karleigh Soileau singled to start the Lady Jay rally.
Kennedy Ardoin doubled, Chapman and Lafleur singled as all five St. Ed baserunners scored in the inning.
South Beauregard answered with six runs in the bottom of the second, begun when Jaci Buxton walked, advanced on a passed ball and scored on a Lady Jay error.
Rutherford doubled and scored on a double by Price, who then crossed home plate on a hit by Eaves to tie the game, 6-6.
Becca Hayes doubled and then Cloessner’s single drove in Eaves and courtesy runner Maggie Bowman as South Beauregard moved ahead, 8-6.
Marlee Fontenot doubled with two outs to keep the inning alive and then pinch runner Skout McLeod scored on a passed ball as South Beauregard increased its lead to 9-6.
St. Edmund pushed across three runs in the top of the third to force a 9-9 tie, begun when Jenna Pommier singled and then pinch runner Elizabeth McGee scored on a hit by Marcantel.
Jaedyn Soileau walked and with two outs, Chapman singled to right field to drive in Soileau and Marcantel as the Lay Jays battled back into the game.
South Beauregard retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Fontenot tripled and scored on a hit by Buxton.
St. Edmund forced another tie in the top of the of the fifth as Pommier singled, Jaedyn Soileau walked and Karliegh Soileau reached on a bunt to load the bases.
Marcantel then singled in pinch runner McGee as the Lady Jays tied the game, 10-10.
St. Edmund scored the go ahead runs in the top of the sixth as Chapman tripled and advanced on a double by Lafleur, who later scored on a South Beauregard error.
Chapman went 3-for-3 with a walk, one RBI and two runs scored as Karleigh Soileau went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored and Jaedyn Soileau walked three times and scored twice.
Marcantel went 3-for-4 with one RBI and run scored, while Pommier finished 3-for-3 with a walk and tw runs scored as the Lady Jays finished with 15 hits and 11 walks in the game.
Pommier started in the circle for St. Ed’s and she allowed two earned runs with two hits, four walks and two strikeouts in one inning pitched.
Kennedy Ardoin went the rest of the way as she allowed six earned runs and 12 hits, three strikeouts and a walk.

St. Ed’s 5, Elizabeth 1
St. Edmund continued the tournament with a 5- 1 victory over the Elizabeth Lady Bulldogs.
Jaedyn Soileau opened the game with a walk and scored on a one-out hit by Marcantel.
The Lady Jay catcher stole second and third before scoring on a hit by Ardoin to push St. Edmund ahead, 2-0.
The Lady Jays added two more runs in the top of the third when Marcantel and Anna Belle Fontenot both reached base and scored on a hit by Mary Beth Lafleur.
St. Edmund added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning when Lafleur singled, stole second and scored on a hit to right field by Rylie Johnson.
Elizabeth avoided the shutout when Kaitlyn Lilly singled in the bottom of the sixth and scored on a hit by Adri Johnson.
Karleigh Soileau earned the complete game win as she struck out 13 batters, walked one and allowed four hits.
Marcantel finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Lafleur also went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

St. Ed’s 12, Oakdale 5
The Lady Jays closed the Oakdale tournament with a 12-5 victory over the host Lady Warriors.
St. Edmund jumped out to an early lead, begun when Jaedyn Soileau walked, stole second and third before scoring on a passed ball.
Lafleur walked and scored on a hit by Marcantel, who later scored when Ardoin reached on an error as the Lady Jays pushed ahead, 3-0.
After Oakdale scored in the bottom of the first frame, St. Edmund exploded for five runs in the top of the second inning, sparked by a triple by Guillory who scored on a hit from Fontenot.
Mary Helen Miller singled to keep the rally going before Lafleur’s one-out triple drove in two more runs.
Marcantel (2-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 RS) singled in Lafleur and later scored to push the Lady Jays ahead, 8-1.
St. Edmund continued its offensive barrage with two more runs in the top of the third, begun when Jaedyn Soileau walked and later scored on a passed bal.
Lafleur singled, stole second and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Rylie Johnson.
The Lady Jays added two insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning, begun when No. 29 walked and scored on a double by Lafleur (3-for-3, BB, 2 RBI, 4 RS).
Fontenot hit a two-out single to left field to push in Lafleur as the Lady Jays moved ahead, 12-1.
Oakdale rallied for four runs in the bottom of inning, aided by three St. Edmund errors, but the Lady Jays defense recovered as the Lady Warriors ended with two ground outs.
St. Ed’s pitchers Jaedyn Soileau, Hannah Benoit and Pommier combined for the win as they struck out four, walked six and allowed five runs on four hits.
The Lady Jays will participate in the Acadiana High tournament that begins Friday at the Youngsville complex.
St. Edmund will face Centerville at 3:30 p.m. Friday before taking on St. Scholastica at 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Jays will face Laccassine at 4 p.m. on Saturday at St. Julien Park in Broussard.
