Lady Jays roll in home opener

St. Edmund exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to seal a 16-1 win over Abbeville Monday in the Lady Jays’ home opener.
St. Edmund jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, begun when Jaedyn Soileau and Jamie Fuselier both singled and scored on a triple by Gabby Fontenot. Fontenot then scored on a sacrifice by Maggie Larriviere.
Abbeville scored its only run of the game in the second inning when Alexis Stelly singled and crossed home plate on a double by Brittany Campbell.
The Lady Jays pushed across six runs in the bottom of the second to increase the lead to 9-1 begun when Mary Beth Lafleur singled, stole second and scored on a sacrifice by Fuselier.
Fontenot walked with two outs and then moved her way around the bases before stealing home to give the Lady Jays a 5-1 lead.
Karleigh Soileau singled and was replaced by courtesy runner Katelyn LaCour, Larriviere was then hit by a pitch to keep the rally alive.
LaCour stole home and Larriviere scored when Abby Miller reached on an error who then scored on a hit by Olivia Clark.
Clark scored on a hit by Olivia McDaniel as the Lady Jays moved ahead by eight runs.
St. Edmund sent 10 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the fourth inning to seal the mercy-rule win.
Larriviere opened the frame with a walk, stole second and scored on a passed ball.
Miller singled and scored on a hit by Anna Belle Fontenot, while Clark walked and crossed home plate when Dustie Deshotel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Fontenot scored on a sacrifice by Fuselier, while Soileau dropped in a two-out single to plate Lafleur and Deshotel.
Larriviere completed the game when she singled in Soileau for the 15-run margin.
Karleigh Soileau earned the win for the Lady Jays as she scattered five hits and one run while striking out five.
Ahni Mire suffered the loss a she allowed 16 runs on 15 hits and striking out three.
Miller (3-for-3, 2 RS, RBI), LaFleur, (2-for-3, 2 RS) Solieau (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Clark (2-for-2, BB, 2 RS, RBI) all had multiple hits for St. Edmund.

Saturday at the Eunice High softball tournamernt, the Lady Jays’ gallant comeback fell just short as Loreauville held on for an 11-10 win.
Loreauville scored five runs in the bottom of the first, aided by a two-RBI double by Madi Freyou.
The Lady Jays scored a run in the top of the second when Fontenot singled and scored on a sacrifice by Soileau.
The Lady Tigers answered when Kelsi Louviere hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning.
St. Edmund closed the gap to 6-2 in the top of the fourth when Kinsley Marcantel reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a hit by Soileau.
LHS scored twice in the bottom of the frame to push ahead, 8-2.
The Lady Jays exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth to close the margin to 8-7.
Jaedyn Soileau singled and later stole home, while Deshotel singled and pinch runner Fuselier later stole home.

The Lady Jays then scored when courtesy runner LaCour advanced as McDaniel reached on an error.
Loreauville added two runs in the bottom of the inning, aided by two Lady Jay errors.
The Lady Tigers added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Hannah Towers walked and scored on a double ny Kate Landry.
The Lady Jays battled back in the top of the seventh inning, begun when McDaniel, Fontenot and Jaedyn Soileau all singled with one out.
After a sacrifice by Deshotel scored a run, Larriviere doubled in Fontenot and Soileau to close the gap to 11-10.
The Lady Jays finished with 4 hits, led by Jaedyn Soileau (3-for-4, BB, 2 RS), Marcantel (3-for-4, 2 RS), Karleigh Soileau (2-for-4, 2 RBI), and Larriviere (2-for-4, 2RBI, RS).
Loreauville was led by Madi Freyou (2-for-4, 2 RBI, RS) and Mia Romero (2-for-3, RBI, 2 RS).

Mamou scored six runs in both the second and fourth innings as the Lady Demons rolled to a 14-1 win over St. Edmund Saturday at the Eunice Recreation Complex.
The Lady Jays scored its only run of the game in the top of the third inning when Jaedyn Soileau tripled and scored on a hit by Olivia Clark.
Karleigh Solieau suffered the loss as she allowed six earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts and six walks over 2.2 innings.
Jaedyn Solieau allowed six earned runs on two hits with three walks and a strikeout in 1.1 innings of work.
Jaedyn Solieau went 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Jays, while Clark (1-for-3, RBI), Olivia McDaniel (1-for-2) and Gabby Fontenot (1-for-2) recorded the other St. Ed’s hits.

The Lady Jays won their season opener last Friday with a strong showing by senior pitcher Maggie Larriviere who struck out 11 Port Barre batters and limited the Lady Devils to just two hits and a walk.
The Lady Jays scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when Larriviere (2-for-3) singled and scored on a hit by Kinsley Marcantel.
In other action in the Lady Cat Invitational, host team Eunice lost all three games.
The Lady Cats lost 10-2 to Loreauville as Amber Arvie led EHS with a 2-for-3 outing including a home run.
The Lady Cats fell 11-10 to Jennings as Olivia Thibodeaux went 3-for-4 with three singles, while Cassie Thomas went 2-for-4 with a double and a single. Morgan Domingue went 2-for-4 with two singles.
Eunice lost 9-2 to Bell City as Hailey Sonnier led the Lady Cats with a 2-for-3 performance.
EHS will entertain Port Barre at 5:30 p.m. today in District 5-3A action.
