Lady Jays roll past LaGrange

LAKE CHARLES – The Lady Jays improved to 11-1 on the season as St. Edmund cruised to a 16-0 mercy-rule victory over LaGrange.
Lady Jay pitcher Karleigh Soileau struck out 13 batters and scattered two hits over the five-inning contest.
St. Edmund scored five runs in the top of the first as the Lady Jays went through the batting order.
Jaedyn Soileau walked and scored on a ground-out by Kinsley Marcantel.
Mary Beth Lafleur walked and later scored on a passed ball.
Anna Chapman singled and scored on a hit by Kennedy Ardoin.
Karleigh Soileau singled and scored on a ground out by Anna Belle Fontenot, while Ardoin crossed home plate on a passed ball.
The Lady Jays added four more runs in the top of the second to push the game out of reach.
Jaedyn Soileau walked and scored on a hit by Marcantel.
Lafleur walked and scored on an error, while Marcantel scored on a double by Chapman.
Chapman scored on a passed ball as the Lady Jays moved ahead, 9-0.
St. Edmund exploded for five runs in the top of the third, begun when Jaedyn Soileau walked and scored on a hit by Marcantel –who advanced home on a passed ball.
Chapman walked and scored on a hit by Ardoin, while Harlie Guillory’s sacrifice fly scored Rylie Johnson.
St. Edmund sealed the win with two more runs in the top of the fifth inning, begun when Karleigh Solieau was hit by a pitch and scored on a passed ball.
Ardoin walked and scored on a ground out by Fontenot to push the Lady Jays ahead, 16-0.
St. Edmund finished with 12 walks and six hits in the game, as Marcantel (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Chapman (2-for-3, BB, RBI) and Karleigh Soileau (2-for-3, HB, RBI) had two hits each.
The Lady Jays are scheduled to visit Pine Prairie on Monday before entertaining Opelousas High on Wednesday.
