Lady Jays roll past Oberlin

St. Edmund stayed in the hunt for the District 4-1A title as the Lady Jays cruised to an 11-2 win over Oberlin.
The Lady Tigers (5-13, 2-3) scored two runs in the top of the first inning, begun when Alison Fontenot singled and scored when Haley Perkins reached on an error.
Perkins then scored on the second Lady Jay error of the inning for a 2-0 Oberlin advantage.
St. Edmund (12-10, 5-1)responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, sparked when Gabby Fontenot singled and scored on a double by Kinsley Marcantel.
Maggie Larriviere then singled in Marcantel as the Lady Jays tied the game, 2-2.
St. Edmund loaded the bases when Karleigh Soileau singled and Olivia Clark reached on an error.
Abby Miller was hit by a pitch to plate Larriviere to give the Lady Jays a 3-2 lead.
St. Edmund added two more runs in the bottom of the second as Fontenot reached on an error and Marcantel ripped an inside the park round tripper.
The Lady Jays scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to move ahead, 8-2.
Fontenot singled and scored on a double by Marcantel and Larriviere followed with a home run over the centerfield wall.
St. Edmund sealed the win with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, begun when Olivia McDaniel doubled and scored on a double by Fontenot.
Fontenot scored on a double steal after Marcantel walked.
Marcantel then scored on a double by Larriviere.
Three Oberlin pitchers allowed nine earned runs on 18 hits.
Marcantel went 3-for-3 with a walk, four RBI and four runs scored.
Fontenot went 3-for-4 with four RB, two runs scored and three stolen bases.
Larriviere finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs acored.
McDaniel went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Soileau went 2-for-3 with a walk.
Larriviere earned the win as she allowed five hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
St. Edmund visits Merryville (5-2, 3-1) 5 p.m. Tuesday in a key disrict battle.
