Lady Jays roll in shut-out win

ST. MARTINVILLE – The Lady Jays stayed perfect on the season as St. Edmund rolled to a 13-0 mercy-rule win over St. Martinville.
The Lady Jays (6-0) scored a run in the top of the second when Kennedy Ardoin drew a two-out walk and crossed home plate on a hit by Harlie Guillory.
St. Edmund added three more runs in the top of the third inning, begun when Jaedyn Soileau and Kinsley Marcantel walked.
Anna Chapman singled in Jaedyn Soileau, while a double by Ardoin drove courtesy runner Ellie Manuel and Chapman.
The Lady Jays increased their lead to 6-0 in the top of the fourth inning when Elizabeth McGee singled, advanced on a passed ball and scored on a ground out by Marcantel.
St. Edmund exploded for seven runs in the top of the fifth as the Lady Jays pushed ahead, 13-0.
The Lady Jays loaded the bases as Ardoin reached on an error, Anna Belle Fontenot advanced on a fielder’s choice and Guillory walked.
Ardoin scored when Rylie Johnson reached on a fielder’s choice, while Jaedyn Soileau later followed with a two-RBI double.
Johnson scored on an error as St. Ed’s moved ahead, 10-0.
Marcantel’s triple to right scored Jaedyn Soileau.
Chapman singled in courtey runner Manuel and later scored on Karleigh Soileau’s double to complete the Lady Jays’ offensive production.
Jaedyn Soileau went 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored.
Marcantel finished 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk and two RBI.
Chapman went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Karleigh Soileau finished 2-for-4, while Ardoin went 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored.
Karleigh Soileau struck out 10 batters and allowed three hits in the shut out win,
Against Elizabeth in the Oakdale tournament, Soileau struck out 13, walked one and allowed four hits in the 5-1 win.
For her efforts, Karleigh Soileau earned the Eunice News Player of the Week honors.
St. Edmund entertains Port Barre at 3:30 p.m. Monday.

EHS 6, Haughton 2
RUSTON – Eunice High opened the Trey Altick baseball tournament with a 6-2 win over Haughton.
The Bobcats jumped ahead in the first inning, when Grant Fontenot doubled and scored on a hit by Jahiem Mitchell.
Eunice added two more runs in the second, begun when the Bobcats loaded the bases with singles from Dylan Guillory and Hayden Darbonne, while Alex Young was hit by a pitch.
Two runs scored on a wild pitch as the Bobcats pushed ahead, 3-0.
Eunice pushed a run across in the fourth inning when Hayden Darbonne (2-for-3,2 RS) singled and scored on a balk.
The Bobcats added two insurance runs in the fifth inning, begun when Fontenot was hit by a pitch and scored on a hit by Mitchell (2-for-4, 2 RBI).
Mitchell then scored on a double by Dylan Darbonne (2-for-4, RBI).
Haughton scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to avoid the shut out.

St. Ed’s 6, Bunkie 2
ROSEPINE – The St. Blue Jays earned their first win of the baseball season as St. Edmund grabbed a 6-2 win over over Bunkie in the opening game of the Rosepine tournament.
The Blue Jays (1-4) scored in the bottom of the first inning when Peyton Marcantel doubled and scored on a hit by Will Turk.
After three scoreless innings, St. Edmund exploded for five runs in the fifth inning.
Marcantel singled and scored when Hayden Smith reached on an error.
Bryce Vidrine reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a bases-loaded walk by Daven Benoit.
Ian Dupre singled in Smith and Turk, who had walked earlier in the frame as the Jays pushed ahead 6-0.
Bunkie rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth inning, aided by two walks and a hit batsman.
Benoit earned the win for St. Edmund as he allowed four hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out three with two walks.
Marcantel (2-for-4, 2 RS) and Smith (2-for-3, 1 RS) had mulitple hits for the Blue Jays.
St. Edmund will host the Iota Bulldogs at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
