Lady Jays roll in shutout win

St. Edmund remained undefeated with a 11-0 mercy-rule win over Lacassine Monday at Lady Jay Field.
Karleigh Soileau threw a no hitter with 11 strikeouts and one walk.
Soileau retired the first 13 batters before Taylor Talbot drew a walk with two outs in the fifth inning.
The Lady Jay pitcher then recorded two final strikeouts to end the game.
St. Edmund (6-0) exploded for seven runs in the first inning, begun when Mary Beth Lafleur walked and scored on a double by Soileau.
Jenna Smith reached on an three-base error that plated Soileau.
Anna Chapman followed with a RBI singled to scored Smith as the Lady Jays led, 3-0.
Kennedy Ardoin doubled to keep the rally going before Anna Belle Fontenot reached on an error that allowed two runs to score.
Fontenot scored on a sacrifice by Madison Comeau for a six-run Lady Jay advantage.
Harli Guillory singled and scored on a bunt by Lafleur as St. Ed’s moved ahead, 7-0.
The Lady Jays pushed in three runs in the second inning, begun when Jenna Smith singled and scored on a wild pitch.
Chapman reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Fontenot.
Ardoin was hit by a pitch and scored on a ground out by Comeau as the Lady Jays increased their lead to 10-0.
St. Ed’s added an insurance run in the third inning when Alice Brown doubled and scored on a hit to right field by Lafleur.
The Lady Jays finished with 19 hits, led by Smith (2-for-3 , RBI, 2 RS), Lafleur (2-for-3, RBI, RS) and Soileau (2-for-4, RBI, RS).
The Lady Jays participated in the Acadiana High School tournament over the weekend at Youngsville Sport Complex and outscored their opponents 37-3.
In the 13-0 win over Northlake, Soileau struck out 12 batters and allowed just one win.
Lafleur went 3-for-4 with a RBI, while and Ardoin and Fontenot both finished 2-for-3 with a RBI.
Smith finished 2-for-3 and Chapman scored three runs.
In the 10-0 shutout over Catholic High of New Iberia, Soileau struck out 11, walked one and allowed one hit over six innings.
Smith went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Lady Jay offense.
Comeau ( 2-for-3, RBI, 2 RS) and Guillory (2-for-3, 2 RS) were the other two multiple hit Lady Jay batters.
In the 14-3 win over Westgate, Smith had a strong performance at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.
Fontenot finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Guillory went 2-for-3 with a RBI.
Soileau pitched the first two innings and struck out three batters.
Ardoin followed with four strikeouts, a walk and two earned runs on two hits over the final three innings.
The Lady Jays host Lafayette Christian at 4 p.m. today.
St. Edmund will hold a tournament this weekend.
Friday’s games will be held at the Eunice Rec Complex.
St. Ed’s will take on Erath at 3:30 p.m.
Eunice will face St. Martinville at 4 p.m.
Saturday at Lady Jay Field, St. Edmund will take on Eunice at 8 a.m.
The Lady Jays will face Marksville at 2 p.m.
Eunice will take on Lake Charles College Prep at 4 p.m.
