Lady Jays run past False River

St. Edmund opened District 5-1A play with a strong win as the Lady Jays rolled to a 9-1 win over False River Academy Tuesday.
St. Edmund jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Kelli Richard was hit by a pitch, Gabby Fontenot reached on a fielder’s choice and both scored on a triple by Maggie Larriviere.
The Lady Jays added three more runs in the bottom of the third to push ahead, 5-0.
Richard and Gabby Fontenot both singled and the duo scored again on another Larriviere triple.
Kinsley Marcantel then reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed Larriviere to cross home plate.
False River scored its only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning when Kayla Nolen reached on an error advanced home on a double by Lexie Breaux.
The Lady Jays added a run in the bottom of the fifth when Fontenot singled and scored on a hit by Annabelle Fontenot
St. Edmund put the game away as the Lady Jays scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Jayden Soileau walked and later scored when Mary Beth Lafleur reached on an error.
Lafleur scored on a hit by Fontenot to push St. Edmund ahead, 8-1.
Richard singled and scored on a sacrifice by Larriviere to cap the Lady Jays win.
Gabby Fontenot finished 4-for-4 with a RBI and three runs scored.
Richard went 2-for-3 with three runs scored,
Larriviere went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice and four RBI.
Marcantel and Annabelle Fontenot both went 2-for-4 with a RBI.
Nolen went 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Gators.
Larriviere earned the complete game win as she struck out 11 and allowed one earned run on four hits.
The two teams will meet again at 4 p.m. today in New Roads.
