Lady Jays run past Port Barre

PORT BARRE – St. Edmund exploded for four runs in the top of the sixth inning as the Lady Jays grabbed a 6-3 road win Thursday over the Port Barre Lady Devils.
Lady Jay lead-off batter Jaedyn Soileau walked to begin the game, stole second and scored on a throwing error to give St. Edmund a 1-0 lead.
But no other runs were scored until the Lady Devils tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.
St. Ed’s Mary Beth Lafleur advanced on a dropped third strike in the second inning but could not advance.
The Lady Jays threatened again in the top of the third frame when Karleigh Soileau and Anna Chapman reached base but neither could score.
Lady Jay pitcher Karleigh Soileau struck out 11 of the first 13 batters she faced with one walk allowed in the second inning.
Caitlyn Lanclos doubled in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a double by Denay Lachney as Port Barre tied the game, 1-1.
St. Edmund responded with four runs in the top of the fifth, begun when Chapman, Kinsley Marcantel doubled and both crossed home plate on a double from Kennedy Ardoin.
Ardoin scored on a double by Lafleur, who later crossed home plate on a hit by Harlee GuilloryPort Barre rallied for two runs in the bottom of the inning, begun when Malani Francis walked, Macie Bergeron doubled and Samantha Daniels walked to load the bases.
Rebekah Stelly’s bunt plated Francis, while Bergeron scored on a fly out by Emma Crowe.
The Lady Jays defense stiffened to end the inning when Caitlyn Lanclos singled out to first and Daniels was caught in a run down at third base.
St. Edmund added a run in the top of the seventh when Jaedyn Soileau walked and scored on a hit by Marcantel.
Port Barre (0-1) threatened in the bottom of the frame when Lachney singled but she was left stranded at second as the game ended.
Karliegh Soileau earned the complete game win as she struck out 13, walked three and allowed three runs on four hits.
Marcantel went 2-for-4 with a double, a RBI to lead the Lady Jays.
After playing in the Oakdale tournament this weekend, St. Edmund (2-0) travels to St. Martinville on Tuesday.
