Lady Jays split district games

OBERLIN – The St. Edmund Lady Jays opened District 4-1A play with a 4-2 win over Oberlin before falling 3-2 to Merryville.
St. Edmund (5-6, 1-0) grabbed an early 1-0 lead over Oberlin Wednesday when Jaedyn Soileau walked and scored on an error.
Oberlin (3-6, 0-1) tied the game in the bottom of the second inning as Cortnee Gallow singled and scored on a hit by Autumn Reed.
The Lady Jays answered with a run in the top of the third inning when Jaedyn Soileau singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Kinsley Marcantel.
St. Edmund added an two insurance runs in the top of the fifth frame, begun when Jaedyn Soileau walked and Gabby Fontenot singled.
Maggie Larriviere singled in Soileau, while Fontenot crossed home plate on a hit by Karleigh Soileau for a 4-1 advantage.
The Lady Tigers closed the gap to 4-2 with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Alison Fontenot walked and scored on a double by Amber Perkins.
Larriviere earned the win for the Lady Jays as she allowed two runs on four hits, striking out five.
Lakin Alexander suffered the loss as she allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out three.
St. Edmund was led by Jaedyn Soileau (2-for-3, BB, 3 RS), Karleigh Soileau (2-for-3, BB, RBI) and Olivia Clark (2-for-4).

Merryville scored two runs in the top of the seventh to grab a 3-2 win over the Lady Jays on Thursday.
The Lady Panthers opened the game with a 1-0 lead as Alyssa Duncan singled and scored off a H. Fergy double.
Merryville kept its lead until the bottom of the sixth when St. Edmund seized a 2-1 advantage.
Jaedyn Soileau singled, stole second and tied the game on a ground out by Karleigh Soileau.
Fontenot singled and scored when Marcantel reached on an error.
Merryville took to the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh, begun when K. Mouton walked and scored on a passed ball.
Duncan singled and later scored the game-winning run on a double by R. Dyson.
Jaedyn Soileau (2-for-4, RS) and Fontenot (2-for-3, RS) led the Lady Hay offense.
Duncan (3-for-4, 2 RS) and Fergy (2-for-4, RBI) led Merryville.
Larrievere suffered the loss as she allowed three earned runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and four walks.
Samuels earned the win as she allowed two runs on five hits with fivc strikeouts and two walks.
