Lady Jays win back-to-back titles

The Lady Jays earned the District 4-1A softball championship with a 10-0 mercy-rule win over South Cameron.
St. Edmund grabbed the 2018 title, its first since 2004.
After threatening in the first inning on a single by Karleigh Soileau, the Lady Jay exploded for three runs in the bottom of the second begun when senior Olivia Clark walked and later scored on a sacrifice by Jaycee Cobb.
Anna Belle Fontenot and Kennedy Ardoin both reached on Lady Tarpon errors to keep the rally alive.
Rebecca Benoit singled in Fontenot, while Ardoin crossed home plate on a double by Jaedyn Soileau.
After Lady Jay pitcher Karleigh Soileau struck out the side in the top of the third, the St. Edmund offense responded wth two runs to push ahead, 5-0.
Fontenot drew a two-out walk and Ardoin followed with a RBI triple past the Lady Tarpon centerfielder.
Cobb reached on an error that allowed Ardoin to score for a five-run advantage.
The Lady Jays added a run the bottom of the fourth when Jaedyn doubled, advanced on a wild pitch and then scored on a fly out by Karleigh Soileau.
Karleigh Soileau struck out the side again in the top of the fifth inning and the Lady Jay offense responded again to seal the win.
Fontenot singled and scored on a hit by Rebecca Benoit for a 7-0 Lady Jay lead.
Jaedyn Soileau singled to load the bases and Karleigh Soileau then cleared the bases with a triple to end the game.
South Cameron (4-19,1-7) threatened in the first inning on a single by Marley Thibodeaux, in the second frame when Shyla Duplechain walked and again in the fourth inning when Karlee Nunez doubled but the Lady Jays defense preserved the shutout.
Karleigh Soileau earned the win as she allowed two hits with 12 strikeouts and a walk.
Jaedyn Soileau went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Karleigh Soileau finished 2-for-4 with a sacrifice and four RBI.
Fontenot went 1-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored.
Benoit went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
