NEW ROADS – St. Edmnud’s Abby Miller hit two free throws in the closing seconds to help lift the Lady Jays to a 45-44 District 5-1A win over Catholic High of Pointe Coupee Tuesday night.
The Lady Hornets (15-4, 4-3) scored a free throw to put CHPC on the verge of a win, but the visiting Lady Jays (9-14, 5-2) had other ideas as Miller made the two critical free throws.
St. Edmund jumped out to a 15-11 first quarter lead, sparked by six points from Camille Leger and five more by Allison Lafleur.
CHPC outscored St. Edmund 10-8 in the second period, but the Lady Jays took a 23-21 advantage into the lockeroom.
Miller led SEH with four points in the period, while Maggie Lambert scored five points for the Lady Hornets.
St. Edmund battled the Lady Hornets 14-10 in the third period as the Lady Jays pushed ahead, 37-31.
LaFleur pushed in eight points to help St. Edmund, while five different Lady Hornets each scored a bucket in the quarter.
CHPC outscored the Lady Jays 13-8 in the final period as the Lady Hornets fought to grab a crucial district win.
Kennedi Broussard made a free throw to give the Lady Hornets a 43-41 advantage, but Lafleur drove the lane to force a 43-43 tie.
Jolie Thibodeaux hit a free throw to lift CHPC ahead, 44-43 before Miller was fouled and made the two winning free throws.
Lafleur finished with 17 points, while Miller added 12 points.
Gabby Fontenot chipped in nine points, while Lady Jay teammate Leger contributed seven points.
Lambert led CHPC with 13 points and Broussard added nine points.
St. Edmund travels to Westminster Christian Academy (6-11, 3-4) Friday as district action concludes next week.

CHPC 65, St. Ed’s 44
Catholic High of Pointe Coupee outscored St. Edmund 34-23 in the first half as the Hornets rolled to a 65-44 win over the Blue Jays.
CHPC (11-12, 4-3) had eight different players score points in the first period, including treys from Logan Brown, Nick Carriere and Taylor Kellerman.
Carter Andrus led St. Edmund (2-21, 0-7) with five first quarter points, while Austin Gradney and Christian Fontenot both added four points.
The Hornets outscored the Jays 15-10 in the second frame, sparked by eight points from Brown.
Alex Dupre hit four free throws in the quarter for the Jays, while Phillip Thibodeaux, Gradney and Fontenot both added a bucket.
CHPC opened the second half with a 14-9 run, aided by treys from Jared Lee, Brown and Andrew LaCour.
Andrus drilled a trey and teammate Dupre added four points for the Jays, who trailed 48-34 heading into the final period.
The Hornets sealed the win with a 17-12 fourth-quarter run, sparked by six points from Kyle Bourque.
Tyler Fonville scored four points including a buzzer beater for the Jays, while Andrus, Gradney, Fontenot and Drake Trahan added buckets in the period.
Bourque scored six points in the quarter for the Hornets to finish with eight points. Brown led Catholic with 17 points.
Andrus and Gradney both scored 10 points to lead the Blue Jays, while Dupre and Fontenot each added eight points.
