Local athletes earn Academic All-State

For years there have been jokes told about the alleged lack of smart athletes.
But each year, he LHSAA All-Academic Award Program recognizes the academic excellence of senior student-athletes who have attained a 3.5 grade point average or higher.
To earn Composite Team honors, a student-athlete’s six-semester GPA must have an un-weighted 4.00.
The Class Team is composed of student-athletes with six-semester GPA of 3.5 - 3.999
St. Edmund football players Henry Brown, Alex Fontenot and Dylan Miller all earned Compostite Academic All-State.
Lady Jay volleyball players Hannah Benoit, Rebecca Benoit, Savannah DeVillier and Anna Belle Fontenot also earned Compostite Academic All-State honors.
St. Edmund’s Wesley Driggs (3.91), Gus Brown (3.86) and Easten Coleman (3.77) were named to the Class 1-A/Div. IV Academic All-State list.
Iota’s Owen Daigle (3.95) and Ethan Zaunbrecher (3.59) earned Class 3-A football Academic All-State recognition.
Church Point’s Gavin Richard (3.76) and Ethan Castille (3.50) also earned Class 3-A honors.
Basile’s Jose Palacios (4.0) earned composite academic all-state football honors, while Bearcats Bryson McCoy (3.8), Welsey Lejeune (3.6) and Cole Manuel (3.52) were on the Class 1-A academic all-state list.
In volleyball, St. Edmund’s Mary Betb Lafleur (3.73), Gracie Savoy (3.63) and Sarah Duplechain (3.61) earned Class 1-A academic all-state recognition.
Eunice High’s Isabella Brown (3.67) earned Class 4-A academic all-state honors.
Iota’s Peyton DuBose (4.0) earned composite academic all-state honors.
Lady Bulldogs Madelyn Boone (3.95), Amelie Armand (3.86) and Dixie Guidry (3.64) earned Class 3-A recognition.
Church Point’s Lizzy Herpin (3.80) and Olivia Bundy (3.66) also received Class 3-A honors.
In order to be selected to the All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must be a senior, have participated in the sport for at least two years, and achieved a six-semester cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 or better based on a 4.0 scale.
