Local trio heads to showcase

LAKE CHARLES – Eunice High juniors Austin Phillips and Tyler Darbonne, along with Iota High junior Hunter Wriborg have been selected to play today in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. at the McNeese baseball stadium.
The showcase is called the Louisiana/Texas shootout.
Next week, Phillips and Darbonne will continue their play at Troy University in the Southeastern Underclass Shootout featuring underclassmen from Louisiana, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Florida.
Players were chosen by high school coaches through the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association and mainly consists of unsigned juniors.
“It’s an honor to have these two play in both,” Eunice High head coach Scott Phillips said.“There are really talented kids playing in this.
“ The games at McNeese feature a lot of kids mainly from that side of the stat and there are sophomores on this team as well.”
Phillips said he was thrilled that Bobcat duo can display their talents also at the Southeastern Underclass Shootout.
“The games at Troy consist mainly of unsigned juniors throughout the state,” he said. “It is a great chance for my kids as well as others to showcase their skills outside of the local area.”
