Locals shine in regionals

ABBEVILLE – Eunice High sent several athletes to the upcoming state track championships after strong regional performances.
Lady Cat Leah Walker won the 100 meters with a time of 12.71, while teammate A’Mya Johnwell finished third (13.02).
Walker also won the 200 meters with a time of 26.21 and was named Most Outstanding Performer for the LHSAA Region II Class 3-A meet held Wednesday
Johnwell, Shanyia Toussaint, Zakayla Citizen and Walker combined to win the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 50.37.
Johnwell, Jesslyn Reed, Toussaint and Walker finished third in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:46.32.
Javondre Edwards finished second in both the 110-meter hurdles (16.17) and 300-meter hurdles (40.87)
Bobcats John Mayo (2:06.35) and Travis Thomas (2:07.55) finished second and third in the 800 meters.
Avery Lee finished third in the javelin with a toss of 164-7.
Church Point’s Olivia Bundy finished second in both the 100-meter hurdles (16.09) and the 300-meter hurdles (47.66), while Trevon Wheeler finished second in the 100 meters (11.27).
Iota’s Madison Ardoin won the girls high jump (5-0), Rose Regan finished second in the 1,600 meters (5:54.82). while
Abigail Fontenot finished third in 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.11.
Iota’s Seth Bourque finished second in the pole vault with a height of 11 feet.
The Lady Bulldogs finished second in the 4x400-meter relay as Hallie Stomas, Regan, Andriana Curtis and Jeanne Dornier combined for a time of 4:13.89.
Crowley won the girls title with 80 points, while Eunice finished fifth with 48 points.
St. Louis was the boys regional champion with 54 points, while Eunice finished in sixth place with 39 points.
The top three finishers advance to the state track championships on May 3-4 at LSU’s Bernie Moore track complex.
St. Edmund’s Mary Beth Lafleur finished third in the javelin with a toss of 111-08 at the Class 1-A Region II championships.
