ABBEVILLE – Some days just don’t go as planned and sometimes there are a few surprises along the way.
After winning both the St. Landry Parish and District 5-3A titles, the expectations were high for the Eunice High Lady Bobcats heading into the LHSAA Region II-3A meet held Thursday at Abbleville High.
Kaplan won the girls title with 80 points, while Eunice was seventh with 40 points.
E.D. White captured the boys division with 80 points as Eunice finished No. 10 with 28 points.
The top three finishers in each event head to the LHSAA state meet at LSU’s Bernie Moore track complex.
Eunice High’s A’mya Johnwell finished second in the 100 meters (13.10) and fourth in the 200 meters (27.15).
Jyhreh Johnson, Timia Thomas, Johnwell and Kiara White finished second in the 4x100 relay with a time of 50.56.
Johnson, White, Shanyia Toussaint and Johnwell finished second in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:46.24.
The Lady Cats’ Johnson, Stacie White, Robbi Palmer and Jesslyn Reed finished fourth in the 4x400 relay (4:24.07).
Palmer also finished fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4-10.
Iota’s Chloe Smith won the 800 meters (2:23.36) and finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (50.20)
Rose Regan finished third in the 1,600 meters (5:47.12), while Abigail Fontenot finished third in the 100-meter hurdles (16.44).
Church Point’s Madison Guillory won the discus (110-07) and Hannah Richars won the javelin (114-07).
Lady Cat Lauren Sonnier finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 9-6.
In the boys division, Eunice’s Javondre Edwards finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.57.
Bobcat Avery Lee finished second in the javelin with a toss of 165-09 and Malik Poullard grabbed second in the triple jump with a leap of 43-11.
Church Point’s Breelyan Jones finished second in the boys 100 meters with a time of 11.00.

Region II- IA
LAFAYETTE – In the Region II Class 1-A meet held at the University of Louisiana Lafayette, it was a sweep by Lafayette Christian, dominating both divisions.
LCA won the boys competition outdistanacing second place Central Catholic 134-58.
LCA captured the girls title with 96 points, well ahead of Merryville (64) and third-place Westminster Christian Academy (58).
The top three finishers head to the LHSAA state meet at LSU’s Bernie Moore track complex.
Basile’s Travis Mondares finished second in the high jump (6-0).
Basile’s 4x200 relay team of Rashawn Murphy, Rashad Murphy, Jermone Thomas and Jaylon Thomas finished third with a time of 1:33.47.
St. Edmund’s Mallory Allain fell just short of the state meet with a fourth-place finish in the shot put (31-6).
Blue Jay Jacque Richard finished fourth in both the boys shot put (39-08.5) and the discus (119-0).
