With a berth in the LSWA Top 10, the Bobcats look to stay in the District 5-3A race as Eunice visits the Northwest Raiders.
Eunice improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in district with a 49-12 win over Mamou.
The Bobcats are presently ranked second in the LHSAA Class 3-A power rankings behind undefeated Iota.
“Our goal is to get the best ranking we can get for the playoffs,” Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said, “It all comes down to the numbers in the computer.”
Eunice exploded for 36 points in the first quarter, begun when Jordan Ledet took the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.
“Things happened really fast in that game,” Trosclair said. “It was 22-0 with nine minutes to go in the first quarter – the guys came out really focused and ready to play from the get go.”
Northwest sits at 6-2 overall and 3-2 in district as the Raiders grabbed a 32-26 win last week over Pine Prairie.
“The Raiders are very talented and their quarterback is a very good player,” Trosclair said. “He can do it all – run it and throw it.
In the win over Pine Prairie, Raider junior quarterback Montaze Sam finished with 161 yards on 16 carries and also completed 7-of-14 passes for 107 yards.
He accounted for four scores in the win.
“No question, we will have our hands full as they are improving as the season goes on,” Trosclair said.
“It is a big game for us and a big game for them.”
The Raiders opened the season with three straight wins over Opelousas Catholic (32-22), Berwick (34-31) and West St. Mary (39-12).
Northwest then dropped district games to Iota (49-21) and Crowley (32-28).
The Raiders regrouped with three district wins over Church Point (44-28), Port Barre (28-0) and Pine Prairie.
“If we can win Friday, it sets up the Iota game as a really big game,” Trosclair said.
“It would be a great way to end the regular season with a game that means a lot.
“But we have to win this game against Northwest.”
In other district games this week, Church Point travels to Mamou, Crowley hosts Port Barre, Iota entertains Pine Prairie.
