The Eunice – Jennings football rivalry is the longest series on the Bobcats schedule that includes the 1982 state championship game.
Friday night, No. 7 Eunice entertains Jennings at Bobcat Field for the 64th meeting between the two teams.
The past six years, each team has earned three wins.
“The Eunice – Jennings game has always been a tough one,” EHS head coach Paul Trosclair said. “It has become a very good rivarly,” the coach said. “It is always a big game on our schedule.”
Last year, Jennings rolled up 573 yards to take a 40-27 victory over the Bobcats.
The Bulldogs had 449 rushing yards, led by Travis Etienne (16 carries for 147 yards, three touchdowns) and Kendrick Lejeune (seven carries for 155 yards, two touchdowns).
Etienne was the 2016 Class 3-A MVP and is now a member of the Clemson Tigers’ football team.
Last week, the Bobcats earned a 24-0 win over Opelousas High.
“The shut-out is something to be excited about,” Trosclair said. “That is hard to do these days against the offenses we face so a shut-out is great.”
Trosclair added he was happy to see the way they dominated the offensive and defensive lines, especially in the second half.
The Bobcats finished with 322 yards of total offense, including 217 yards on the ground.
Eunice limited OHS to eight first downs and 149 yards of total offense.
The Bulldogs’ game scheduled against Church Point was cancelled because of Hurricane Harvey.
“I think they will throw the ball a little bit more,” Trosclair said of Jennings. “But I think they will run the same offense that we have seen the last seven or eight years.”
In 2015, the Bobcats earned a 44-28 win to break a two-game losing streak against the Bulldogs.
