Notre Dame sweeps Jays

It wasn’t the way St. Edmund wanted its first home games to go as Notre Dame rolled to a sweep Tuesday night at the Blue Jays gym.
Notre Dame jumped out to a 16-4 first quarter advamtage as the Lady Pioneers grabbed a 42-33 win over the Lady Jays.
Camille Leger scored three points for SEH in the quarter, while Maggie Larriviere added a free throw.
Abbey Higginbotham and Leeann Gray both scored five points for the Lady Pios.
Trailing by 12 points heading into the second quarter, St. Edmund rallied for an 11-8 run to close the gap to 24-15 at intermission.
Lady Jay Gabby Fontenot pushed in seven points and Allison Lafleur added three points in the quarter.
Melise Gossen and Allyssa Williams both scored four points for Notre Dame in the period.
The battle continued in the third quarter as Notre Dame outscored the Lady Jays, 10-8.
Larriviere scored eight points in the quarter and Abby Miller pushed in a bucket to help close the margin to 34-23.
Williams scored five points for the Lady Pios, while Higginbotham drained a trey and Sydnei Simon added a bucket in the period.
St. Edmund fought to a 10-8 fourth quarter advantage, but the Lady Pios’ first quarter surge held as Notre Dame won, 42-33.
After a trey by Higginbotham, the Lady Jays responded with buckets underneath by Miller and Leger to close the gap to 39-27.
Williams converted a three-point play to pad the Lady Pios’ lead with 2:20 left in the contest.
The Lady Jays closed the game with a 6-0 run with buckets by Leger, Larriviere and Miller.
Larriviere led St. Edmund (2-7) with nine points, while Fontenot and Leger both chipped in seven points and Miller had six points.
Lafleur contributed four points for the Lady Jays.
Williams led Notre Dame (8-4) with 18 points, while Higginbotham added 11 points.

ND 65, SEH boys 21
Notre Dame exploded for a 19-4 first quarter run as the Pioneers cruised to a 65-21 win over St. Edmund.
The Pioneers (6-3) jumped out to a 8-0 advantage before St. Edmund’s Christian Fontenot scored with 4:43 left in the period.
Notre Dame’s John Lamm took over with 11 points before Blue Jay Drake Trahan hit two free throw in the closing seconds.
The Pioneers continued its scoring barrage with a 15-4 second quarter run to push ahead 35-8 at the break.
A three-pointer by JT Swacker and putback from Lamm gave the Pios a 24-4 advantage.
After a bucket by St. Edmund’s Austin Gradney, Notre Dame answered with a shot from Lamm and a trey by Landry.
Carter Andrus scored on a putback bucket for the Jays at the 3:51 mark, but the Pioneers closed the half with a 6-0 run to increase their halftime lead to 27 points.
Notre Dame went on a 14-7 run in the third period as the Pioneers continued to dominate the game.
A trey by Gradney, a bucket from Carter Andrus and a putback by Stephen Thibodeaux accounted for St. Edmund’s points in the period.
Lamm added six more points to his 21-point performance, while three other Pios added a bucket in the period.
Gradney drained a trey to open the fourth quarter for the Blue Jays, but Notre Dame answered with a 9-0 run to push ahead 58-18.
Carter Andrus drilled a trey with 3:05 left to help the Jays close the gap to 58-21, but the Pioneers finished the game with a 8-0 run including back-to-back buckets from Michael Thibodeaux.
Gradney led St. Edmund (2-7) with eight points, while Andrus chipped in seven points.
