Parish tournament starts today

LEBEAU – The annual St. Landry Parish basketball tournament tips off today at North Central.
The No. 2 seed Northwest Raiders face No. 7 Port Barre Red Devils at 2:30 p.m.
The No. 4 Eunice Lady Bobcats will take on No. 6 Port Barre at 4 p.m.
“We should gain much needed playing experience,” Eunice High Lady Bobcats head coach Wayne Fontenot said. “The more court time these girls get, the better we will get.
“With several injuries we were forced to move some players into postitions they were probably a year a way of being ready in,” the coach said.
Fontenot said facing the parish teams will help get the Lady Cats ready for district.
“We will make the most of it that we can,” Fontenot said. “We are competitors and not quiters that’s for sure.
“Our young players are learning as we go,” the coach said.
No. 5 seed J.S. Clark will face No. 4. Beau Chene at 5:30 p.m., followed by a battle between the No. 3 Opelousas Lady Tigers and No. 5 Beau Chene Lady Gators.
Today’s action concludes when the No. 6 Eunice Bobcats take on No. 3 Opelousas at 8:30 p.m.
“The players enjoy it because they get to compete for a championship against other kids in the parish,” EHS head coach Chad Andrepont said.
“It prepares us for district and the rest of the season by playing really tough teams that help us to get better.”
Friday’s games begin at 3 p.m. when the top-seed Northwest Lady Raiders face the Port Barre/Eunice winner.
The 4:30 p.m. boys game will be the Port Barre/Northwest winner against the Eunice/OHS winner.
In game three, the No. 2 North Central Lady Hurricanes will face the Beau Chene/OHS winner at 6 p.m.
In Friday’s 7:30 p.m. boys finale, the top seed North Central Hurricanes will take on the J.S. Clark/Beau Chene winner.
The consolation and third place games will be held all day Saturday.
The girls’ parish title game will be held at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ championship at 7:30 p.m.
