Parish tourney tips off today

Eunice High will play host for the 2017 St. Landry Parish basketball tournament that tips off today at the Bobcat gym.
Defending champions Northwest Lady Raiders and the Opelousas High Tigers are the top seeds entering the tournament and will receive first round byes.
“We are excited to be the host team,” Eunice head coach Chad Andrepont said. “The players really want to play well on their home court and the tournament is always fun.
“It is always a great enviornment and helps prepares the teams for district,” he said. “It is a big deal to be the St. Landry Parish champions.”
The Bobcats won the 2015 parish tournament title with a 48-45 win over Port Barre.
The tournament tips off at 3:30 p.m. when the No. 4 Opelousas High Lady Tigers (7-5) face No. 5 Beau Chene (2-6).
The No. 3 seed Eunice Lady Bobcats (7-3) will take on No. 6 Port Barre (1-3) at 5 p.m.
“We want to win every game we play,” Eunice High Lady Bobcats head coach Wayne Fontenot said. “We are still very young and making mistakes,” he said. “But the close games we lost last year we seem to be winning those games this year.
“We are looking forward to the parish competition as we get ready for district,” the coach said.
In boys action, No. 5 Eunice (2-4) will battle No. 4 Northwest (3-6) at 6:30 p.m.
No. 3 North Central (7-4) will face the No. 6 Port Barre (1-5) Red Devils at 8 p.m.
On Friday, the EHS-Port Barre girls winner will face the No. 2 North Central Lady Hurricanes (6-6) at 3:30 p.m.
The OHS – Beau Chene winner will take on No. 1 Northwest (9-1) at 5 p.m.
The North Central – Port Barre boys winner will face the No. 2 Beau Chene Gators (7-5) at 6:30 p.m.
The Eunice – Northwest winner will take on the No. 1 Opelousas Tigers (6-1) at 8 p.m.
Loser’s bracket games will begin at 11:30 Saturday with the OHS – Beau Chene girls loser against the EHS – Port Barre girls loser.
At 1 p.m., the EHS – Northwest boys loser will face the North Central – Port Barre loser.
The losers of No. 6 and No. 5 games will battle at 2:30 p.m.
The losers of No. 7 amd No. 8 games will follow at 4 p.m.
The girls championship game will be held at 5:30 p.m., while the boys title game will tip off at 8 p.m.
