Seven Lady Jays named to All-District

Seven St. Edmund players were named to the 2020 Division V, District 2 All-District team.
Lady Jay senior Anna Belle Fontenot was named to the first team.
Joining Fontenot are Carlie Horton and Caroline Lalonde from Westminster Christian Academy, Annelise Menuet and Riley Armstrong from the Academy of the Sacred Heart-Grand Coteau.
Also on the first team aer Riley Armstrong and Makenzie Droddy from Northside Christian along with Hamilton Chrisitian’s Anna Daugherty.
St. Edmund senior Savannah DeVillier was selected to the All-District second team.
WCA’s Emma Moody and Blakelyn Romero were also named to the second team, along with Brylynn George and Kamrie Breaux from Northside Christian.
ASH’s Lillian Cain and Kaitlynn Brousssard were also on the second team along with Sophie Gibbs from Hamilton Christian.
St. Edmund’s Ellie Manuel, Hannah Benoit, Sarah Duplechain, Rebecca Benoit and Mary Beth Lafleur were voted to the honorable mention list.
Also selected as honorable mention were WCA’s Teagan Champagne and Madison Marks, Madeline Dischler and Carly Bergeron from Northside Christian.
Hamilton Christian’s Dai’vianna Smith, Elizabeth Roberts and Sarah Willis complete the honorable mention list.
No. 3 WCA advanced to the state quarterfinals.
The Lady Crusaders opened with a 25-9, 25-9, 25-8 sweep over No. 30 Covenant Christian.
WCA then cruised to a 25-16, 25-17, 25-15 victory over No. 14 Ascension Catholic in the regional round.
The Lady Crusaders fell 3-1 in the quarterfinals to No. 11 Louise McGehee.
After falling 25-21 in the first match, WCA answered with a 25-19.
McGehee then sealed the quarterfinals with a 25-14 and 25-8 wins over WCA.
No. 12 Northside Christian opened the Division V playoffs with a 25-11, 25-10 and 25-15 sweep over No. 21 South Plaquemines.
No. 5 Catholic High of Pointe Coupee ended Northside’s seasib with a 25-19, 25-20, 25-14 sweep in the regional round.
No. 26 St. Edmund earned a playoff berth in just its second season of varsity competition.
The Lady Jays fell 25-8. 25-13. 25-17 to No. 7 St. John in the opening round.
No. 31 Hamilton Christian fell to No. 2 Calvary Baptist 25-11, 25-8 amd 25-11 in the first round.
