St. Edmund holds Senior Night

The St. Edmund Lady Jays grabbed a key 47-37 District 4-1A win over Oberlin on Senior Night.
The Lady Jays (9-13 overall, 6-5 in district) jumped out to a 17-5 first quarter lead, aided by six points from Abby Miller.
St. Edmund continued to control the game with a 13-7 second quarter surge, begun with a trey by Gabby Fontenot.
Oberlin closed the gap to 22-11 on back-to-back treys but the Lady Jays finished the quarter with an 8-1 run including buckets by Maggie Larriviere, Kinsley Marcantel, Miller and Fontenot.
St. Edmund took a 30-12 advantage into the locker room but Oberlin mounted a third quarter comeback to outscore the Lady Jays, 10-9.
Fontenot and Larriviere scored early to push the Jays ahead, 34-15 but the Lady Tigers went on a 10-1 run aided by five points from Heidi Menier.
The Lady Jays stopped the OHS surge when Camille Leger and Miller both scored in the lane to lift St. Edmund to a 39-22 advantage.
Oberlin continued to battle the Lady Jays with a 15-8 run in the final quarter.
Buckets by Leger and Rebecca Benoit to give the Lady Jays a 44-24 lead.
Kristian Anderson scored eight points in the period to help Oberlin close the final gap to 10 points.
Fontenot finished with 11 points to lead the Lady Jays, while Leger and Miller both chipped in 10 points and Larriviere added seven points in the win.
Anderson led Oberlin with 15 points and Menier contributed eight points.
St. Edmund travels to Grand Lake (18-11, 8-2) Friday night.

Oberlin 68, St. Ed’s 60
The Blue Jays kept the game close before Oberlin pulled away for a 68-60 win.
St. Edmund (0-17 overall, 0-9 in district) jumped out to a 5-2 lead with a a pair of buckets by Christian Fontenot and a free throw from Luke Trahan but Oberlin answered with a 10-0 run sparked by four points each from Josh Fontenot and Matthew Frilot.
Alex Dupre converted a three-point play in the final seconds to help the Jays close the gap to 12-8.
Easton Coleman and Dupre scored early in the second period as St. Edmund battled to keep the game close.
A Carter Andrus free throw and four points from Trahan tied the game at 17-17 with 5:27 left in the half.
Oberlin answered with a 5-0 run before Dupre hit two free throws to close the gap to 22-19.
The Tigers then went on an 12-3 surge to help move ahead, 31-22.
Coleman scored six points in the final two minutes, while Dupre and Trahan added free throws to help the Blue Jays closed the halftime margin to 36-33.
The two teams continued to battle in the third period as four points from Dupre along with buckets by Fontenot and Driggs allowed the Jays to close the gap to 43-41.
Dupre finished with eight points in the period as the Jays trailed 52-45 as the game moved to the fourth quarter.
St. Edmund excited the home crowd with a 9-1 run to close the margin to 56-54 midway through the final period.
A trey by Henry Brown kept the Jays close at 59-57 but the Tigers again answered with a 5-0 run.
Another long jumper by Brown closed the gap to 64-60 with 17 seconds left but Oberlin sealed the win with five free throws and the 68-60 victory.
Dupre led St. Edmund with 10 points, while Fontenot chipped in 12 points and Coleman added eight points.
James Kirlin led Oberlin with 18 points.
St. Edmund travels to Grand Lake (17-6 overall, 7-1 in district) on Friday before entertaining Hamilton Christian (16-10 overall, 8-1 in district) on Tuesday.
