St. Ed's falls to Oberlin

Oberlin grabbed a sweep over St. Edmund Friday as the Lady Tigers earned a 61-42 win over the Lady Jays before the Tigers battled to a 63-47 win over the Blue Jays in the finale.
The Lady Tigers (7-12, 2-2) jumped out to a 16-7 first quarter advantage including an 8-2 run to open the game.
The Lady Jays (7-10, 1-3) closed the margin to 11-7 on a free throw by Mary Beth Lafleur and an inbounds bucket from Savannah DeViller.
Oberlin finished the period with a lay-up and a three-pointer at the buzzer by Kristian Anderson.
The two teams battled to a 12-12 tie in the second period to keep the game close.
Tearra Frank scored in the lane for the Lady Tigers, but St. Edmund responded witha 6-0 run aided by buckets from Anna Belle Fontenot, Kennedy Fruge along with two free throws from Jill Simpson to close the gap to 18-13.
Kinsley Marcantel later scored in the lane for the Lady Jays with 3:07 left.
A bucket by Kaitlin Anerson and a trey by Heidi Menier pushed OHS ahead 28-17.
DeVillier scored on an inbounds pass with 28 seconds left to close the halftime margin to 28-19.
Oberlin went on a 20-12 run in the third period as the Lady Tigers began to pull away.
DeVillier scored twice for the Lady Jays including a last-second drive in the lane as she finished with eight points on the night.
Marcantel added three points in the period as St. Edmund trailed 48-31 as the game moved to the fourth quarter.
The two teams scrapped in the final period as the Lady Tigers moved ahead, 13-11.
Lafleur scored seven points in the quarter including a late drive to finish with nine points.
Marcantel added four points to close with 14 points.
Anderson led Oberlin with 24 points.

Oberlin 63, SEH 47
The Tigers opened with a 19-8 run as Oberlin went on to earn a 63-47 win.
A drive by Henry Brown and four points by Alex Dupre helped the Jays grab an 8-7 advantage midway through the period.
OHS (5-12, 1-1) answered with a 12-0 run including a trey at the buzzer.
The Tigers began the second period with a 5-0 run before the Jays answered with a 10-0 run including four free throws by Alex Dupre.
Easton Colean scored inside twice as the Jays closed the deficit to 27-20 at the break.
Luke Trahan and Henry Brown scored early in the third period as the Jays battled to close the margin to 27-24,
Oberlin responded with a 12-0 run before Coleman scored twice in the lane as the Blue Jays trailed 43-30 heading into the final period.
Brown hit a trey, while Coleman drove the lane and later scored on a put-back bucket as the Jays fought to close the gap to 46-37 with 5:38 left in the game.
A trey my Malachi Frilot and a pair of Tiger buckets helped put the game out of reach.
The final four minutes was spent mainly at th free throw line for the two teams.
The Blue Jays (2-10, 0-2) closed the game with a 6-3 run including a second-chance bucket by Trahan.
Coleman and Dupre both scored 14 points to lead the Blue Jays, while Henry Brown chipped in nine points.
Frilot led Oberlin with 25 points.

Elton 67, St. Ed’s 31
ELTON – The Elton Indians grabbed a District 4-1A sweep over St. Edmund Wednesday night.
The Lady Indians cruised to a 67-31 win, while the Indians followed with a 69-40 victory over the Blue Jays.
Elton (15-3, 3-0) opened the girls game with a 21-7 run, sparked by five points each from Jameicia James and Jamarca James along with six points by Summer Ceaser.
The Lady Jays (7-9, 1-2) were led by three points from Mary Beth Lafleur with buckets by Rebecca Benoit and Savannah DeVillier.
The Lady Indians continued their offensive barrage with a 20-13 run in the second quarter to move ahead, 41-20.
Elton’s Jamarca James, Ceaser and Vici Woods all scored four points each in the period.
The Lady Jays were led by five points from Lafleur and four points from Kinsley Marcantel.
DeVillier and Jill Simpson also scored in the quarter.
Elton sealed the win with a 22-7 third quarter surge to push ahead, 63-27.
Jameicia James added seven points to finish with 10 points.
Woods scored six points to finish with 12 points, while Jamarca James chipped on four points to lead the Lady Indians with 13 points.
Lafleur drained a three pointer and Devillier scored two buckets in the frame for the Lady Jays.
Lafleur finished with 11 points, while DeVillier chipped in eight points.
The two defenses took over in the fourth quarter as both teams battled to a 4-4 tie.
Marcantel and Tanzy Miller both scored for the Lady Jays.
Jazz Robinson scored her only three points of the game in the final period for the Lady Indians, while Nya Francis added a free throw.
Elton 69, SEH 40
The Elton Indians opened district play with a 69-40 win over the Blue Jays.
The Indians (7-3, 1-0) began with an 11-7 run, sparked by four points from Quinlan Gobert and three points from Kaleb Guillory.
Henry Brown led the Jays with four points, while Alex Dupre chipped in a bucket and Tyler Fonville added a free throw.
The two offenses woke up in the second period as the Indians outscored the Jays, 25-13.
Sherman Bellow contributed nine points in the quarter for the Indians, while Kaleb Guillory and Xavier Ceaser both added four points.
Brown scored six points for the Jays, while Dupre contributed five points in the frame.
With a 36-20 advantage at the break, the Indians exploded for a 29-9 third quarter run to seal the win.
Bellow led Elton with 11 points including three treys in the period to finish with 22 points.
Gus Brown scored four points in the quarter for the Jays, while Dupre added three and Easton Coleman also scored a bucket.
St. Edmund outscored Elton 11-4 in the fourth quarter to close the final margin to 69-40.
Mark Fruge scored three points, while Alex Fontenot, Gus Brown, Luke Trahan and Ross Fontenot all added a bucket in the quarter.
Alex Dupre and Henry Brown both finished with 10 points for the Blue Jays.
St. Edmund travels to Grand Lake on Tuesday as district action continues.
