Trojans down Blue Jays, 28-6

The Blue Jays got an early turnover on an interception by Kaden Fontenot, but the Sacred Heart Trojans would control the scrimmage for a 28-6 win over St. Edmund as the the two teams opened the fifth-annual Joe Nagata Memorial Jamboree at the Eunice High Bobcat Field.
After the early turnover, Sacred Heart rallied back on a 58-yard touchdown run by Alex Gotro to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead.
The Jays responded with runs of eight and five yards, respectively, by Luke Trahan and Jack Miller.
But a penalty and an incomplete pass set the Jays back and they were forced to punt.
The Trojans put togerther a 43-yard scoring drive which ended with a 36-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Wesley Launey to J. T. Harper to give the Trojans a 14-0 lead.
The Blue Jays were forced to start at their own 16-yard line following the kickoff and were held to no yardage on a first-down run attempt.
An eight-yard run by Trahan gave the Jays some working room, but quarterback Brad Miller was sacked and the Jays had to punt.
Punter Peyton Marcantel got off a 53-yard punt and the Jays would later cash in on an interception by Noah Clause to take possession in Sacred Heart territory.
Coach Andy Hargroder’s Blue Jays took advantage of the good field position to drive for a touchdown. Trahan ran for 32 yards and Murphy Richard ran for 12 to set up a touchdown run of 12 yards by Brad Miller to cut the Tojan lead to 14-6 after a PAT kick miss.
But the Trojans responded quickly, thanks to a 68-yard kickoff return by Harper. The PAT kick gave the Trojans a 21-6 lead as the clock ran down to the half.
The Jays got the ball to open the second 10-minute half and managed to pick up a first down. But the Trojan defense forced a punt to regain possession. Sacred Heart then put the game away with a 54-yard drive that culminated in a 32-yard touchdown pass from Launey to Gotro. With the PAT kick, the Trojans took a 28-6 lead.
The Jays had one final offensive possession but were forced to punt once again. The Trojans ran out the clock to claim the 28-6 victory.
St. Edmund opens the season Friday at Hanson Memorial, while Sacred Heart faces Ville Platte in the Tee Cotton Bowl.
The Blue Jays will take on the Trojans again on Sept. 8 at St. Edmund.
