Young-Frey tournament starts Thursday

The annual John R. Young/Frey Holding Corporation baseball tournament continues to expand each year.
“We joined with St. Edmund to have a city tournament where both schools could make some money and play some good teams,” Eunice High head baseball coach Scott Phillips said. “It has eveolved into a bigger tournament – this year we have 10 differrent sites around the area.”
The three-day tournament includes games at Bobcat Field, Blue Jay Field, Jennings, Iota, Ascension Episcopal, Kinder, Sacred Heart of Ville Platte, Cecilia, Breaux Bridge and Church Point.
“The competition should be pretty good,” Phillips said. “We have 36 teams in the tournament and that is exciting.
The tournament should teach us who can and who can’t before district starts.”
The tournament begins at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at EHS when DeRidder takes on Carencro.
Eunice will face Vinton at 6:45 p.m.
St. Edmund will entertain Pine Prairie at 4:30 p.m. and then face Ouachita Christian at 6:45 p.m.
Friday’s games at EHS start at 4:30 p.m. when South Beauregard battles Church Point.
The Bobcats face Ouachita Christian at 6:45 p.m.
At Blue Jay Field Friday Alexandria Senior High will take on Comeaux and 4:30 p.m., followed by St. Ed’s - Mamou at 6:45 p.m.
On Saturday, Westgate will take on Brusly at 10 a.m. at EHS.
Breaux Bridge will face DeRidder at 12:15 p.m., while Mamou and Westgate will battle at 2:30 p.m.
Eunice will conclude the tournament at 4:45 p.m. against Beau Chene.
At St. Ed’s field, ASH will face Lafayette at 11 a.m.
ASH will then take on South Beauregard at 1:15 p.n.
The Blue Jays will conclude the tournament at 3:30 p.m. against Church Point.
Iota will play host to the three-day tournament, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday when South Beauregard takes on Beau Chene.
The Bulldogs will face Westminster Christian Academy at 6:45 p.m.
On Friday, Livonia and Pine Prairie battle at 3:30 p.m.
Iota will take on LaGrange at 5:45 p.m., while Livonia and Westlake will begin at 8 p.m.
The three Saturday games include Iota taking on Vinton at 10:30 a.m., followed by Oberlin – Pine Prairie at 12:45 p.m. and Kinder facing Carencro at 3 p.m.
Church Point will hold three games Thursday beginning with Catholic High of Pointe Coupee at 3 p.m.
CHPC will then face Crowley at 5:15 p.m.
The Bears will take on Welsh at 7:30 p.m.
Sacred Heart of Ville Platte will hold games Thursday and Saturday.
The Trojans will face Oberlin at 3:30 p.m. .
SHVP will take on St. Michael’s at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Ouachita Christian and CHPC will face each other at 1:15 p.m., while the Trojans will take on Ouachita Christian at 3:30 p.m. for the tournament finale.
