Young-Frey tourney begins today

The annual John R. Young Chevrolet/Frey Holding Company baseball tournament begins today at nine different baseball parks around Acadiana.
“We have 33 teams in the tournament,” Eunice head baseball coach Scott Phillips said. “We have coaches from the other schools who want to help and now this is the second-largest tournament in the state.
The Monroe tournament has 61 teams, according to Phillips.
“It takes a lot of work, but it is a great tournament as each site can make money.
“We have some hoss teams in the tournament with Quachita Christian, St. Michael, Brusly, Northshore and plenty of other good local squads.”
At Eunice High, Mamou takes on Lafayette Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m.
The Bobcats will face Alexandria Senior High at 6:45 p.m.
On Friday at EHS, Lafayette High will battle South Beauregard at 3:30 p.m., followed by Brusly-St. Michaels at 5:45 p.m.
Eunice will take on Mamou at 8 p.m. to conclude Friday’s action.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, Ouachita Christian will face St. Michaels.
Cecilia and DeRidder square off at 12:15 p.m., followed by Ouachita Christian-Breaux Bridge at 2:30 p.m.
Eunice will take on Erath at 4:45 p.m. to cap off the tournament.
At St. Edmund’s field, the action begins at 4:30 p.m today as Erath faces Beau Chene.
The Blue Jays will take on Pine Prairie at 6:45 p.m.
Livonia and Breaux Bridge begin Friday’s action at 3:30 p.m.
DeRidder and Beau Chene will battle at 5:45 p.m., followed by St. Edmund - Livonia at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, LCA and Oberlin will begin at 10 a.m., while the St. Ed’s-LCA game is set for 12:15 p.m. Westminster and Mamou will square off at 2:30 p.m.
The Blue Jays conclude the tournament at 4:45 p.m. against Westlake.
At Iota High’s park today the action begins with Westlake-Port Barre at 4:30 p.m., while Iota will take on Crowley at 6:45 p.m.
On Friday, WCA will face Oberlin at 3:30 p.m., followed by Iota-Pine Prairie at 5:45 p.m.
Westgate and ASH will cap the night with an 8 p.m. clash.
On Saturday, Brusly and South Beauregard will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by Kinder-Westlake at 12:45 p.m.
The Bulldogs close the tournament at 3 p.m. against North Vermillion.
Games will also be played at Ascension Episcopal, Sacred Heart of Ville Platte, Breaux Bridge, Kinder, Jennings and Westminster.
