Youngblood heads to All-Star games

PINEVILLE – The Eunice High Bobcat baseball team will be well repesented here Friday and Saturday in the LBCA High School All-Star Baseball Game, with Eunice High head coach Scott Phillips serving as an assistant coach and senior Joshua Youngblood participating as a catcher for the West Squad.
Youngblood ends his Eunice High career after three years in which he was named as a member of the All-District Team. Youngblood finished his senior year with impressive numbers.
He drove in 43 runs with a .421 batting average. His offensive stats included 15 doubles, five triples, and two home runs.
Phillips is taking part in the All-Star game for the fifth time.
He was a coordinator two times and served as head coach one time. This is his second time serving as an assistant coach.
The head coach of the West squad is Lonny Landry of Ascension Episcopal High School. The coordinator for the West squad is North Vermilion head coach Jeremy Trahan.
John Michael Collins of St. Louis High School is serving as an assistant coach for the West along with Phillips.
The East squad’s head coach is Mike Forbes of Central High School. Kade Keowen serves as the head coordinator for the East squad, with Will Grey of Lakeside and Dave Montiel of Tioga serving as assistant coaches for the game.
There will be two games played at Louisiana College.
The first game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday. The second game is scheduled for a noon start on Saturday.
Each squad has two position players per spot and seven pitchers. Both games are set for nine innings.
The players will rotate, with players playing five innings and four innings, respectively.
Eunice High School’s Youngblood follows former Bobcat catcher Gunner Fontenot as a participat in the game.
Fontenot was a catcher in last year’s contest.
Other Bobcat players who played in the game include Stuart Turner, Zac Person, and Andre Vige, who now serves as offensive coordinator for the Bobcat football team.
Thomas Stevens of Notre Dame High School was also selected to play for the West squad.
