Young/Frey tourney set for weekend

The 20th annual John R. Young – Frey Holding Corporation baseball tournament will be held this weekend at both Eunice High and St. Edmund fields.
The Bobcats will open the tournament 4:30 p.m. today against Plaquemine.
Eunice will take om Kinder at 6:45 p.m.
At Blue Jay Field –North Park, tournament action begins a 4:30 p.m. when Port Barre takes on Northside Christian.
The Blue Jays will battle Notre Dame at 6:45 p.m.
Friday’s games at Bobcat Field begin at 3 p.m. when Northside Christian faces Livonia.
Notre Dame and Acadiana High follow at 5:15 p.m.
Eunice will take on Livonia at 7:30 p.m.
At Blue Jay Field, Friday’s action begins at 4:30 p.m. when Welsh faces Mamou.
St. Ed’s will battle Beau Chene at 6:45 p.m.
Two games on Saturday at each field concludes tournament action.
At Bobcat Field, Southside will take on Beau Chene at 11 a.m.
Eunice will entertain New Iberia Senior High at 1:15 p.m.
At Blue Jay Field, Notre Dame will face Brusly at 11 a.m.
St. Edmund will take on Plaquemine at 1:15 p.m.
Tournament games will also be held at Iota, Jennings, Ascension Episcopal, Breaux Bridge, Opelousas Catholic, Sacred Heart of Ville Platte and Teurlings Catholic.

EHS 5, Port Barre 4
PORT BARRE – The Bobcats scored a run in the top of the fifth to break a 4-4 tie as Eunice High held on for a 5-4 win over the Red Devils.
Eunice grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Zach Suire reached on a lead-off error, stole both second and third before scoring on another Port Barre error.
The Bobcats added a run in the second when Evan Fruge singled and later stole home.
Port Barre closed the gap to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning when Ponthieux reached on an error and scored on fly out by Lachney.
Eunice pushed ahead 3-1 in the top of the third inning when Dylan Guillory was hit by a pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hudson Manuel.
The Bobcats increased their lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning when Trey Soileau reached on an error and scored on a fielder’s choice by Suire.
Port Barre rallied on a three-run home run by Ponthieux in the fourth inning to force a tie game.
The Bobcats answered with the go-ahead run when Hayden Darbonne was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Braden Rider (2-for-2, RBI).
Suire earned the complete game win as he struck out six, walked two and allowed three earned runs on two hits.
Eunice split games over the weekend at the Trey Altick Memorial tournament.
The Bobcats defeated Franklin Parish 10-0, but fell 6-1 to Ruston.
In the mercy-rule win, Price Myers struck out three, walked one and scattered two hits over five innings.
Myers helped his own cause with a 2-for-2 outing at the plate.
Manuel went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
In the loss to Ruston, Suire finished 3-for-4.
Rider was handed the loss as he struck out four, walked two and allowed five earned runs on eight hits.
