Bobcat girls, boys win openers

OBERLIN — The Eunice High basketball teams opened their seasons here Tuesday evening with victories.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats took a 63-19 victory over the Tigers. The Bobcats opened the game with a 10-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. By halftime, the Bobcats had increased its lead to 34-9.
The Bobats outscored the Tigers 29-10 over the final two quarters to open their season with a victory. Carlin Vigers led the Bobcats in scoring with 21 points. Kobe Doucet also hit the double-digit scoring mark with 11 points. Harold Savoy had seven points, while Joshua Dupre and Dione Hampton had six points apiece.
John Jackson led Oberlin in scoring with eight points.
Coach Wayne Fontenot’s Lady Bobcats earned a win in their season opener with a 50-29 victory over the Lady Tigers.
The Eunice girls jumped out to an early lead by scoring 14 points in the opening quarter, while limiting the Lady Tigers to five points. Stacie White scored 12 of those 14 points as she had four field goals, including two three-point goals and two free throws.
The Lady Bobcats continued to dominate the action in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers by a 14-11 margin to take a 28-16 lead into the second half.
The Lady Cats outscored Oberlin 22-14 over the final two quarters to secure the victory. White topped all scorers with 21 points. Jesslyn Reed and Leah Walker added nine and eight points, respectively, for the Lady Bobcats.
The Lady Bobcats will host Basile on Thursday with a junior varsity game followed by varsity action.
