Five Blue Jays land on 5-1A team

District 5-1A play was controlled by North Central and the Hurricanes also dominated the All-District list.

The top-seed in Class 1-A playoffs, the Hurricanes advanced to the state semifinals with wins over Sicily Island (94-25) and Tensas (79- 34) before falling to No. 4 Arcadia, 46-38.

Opelousas Catholic’s Keon Coleman was named district MVP.

Coleman signed with Michigan State University to continue his football and basketball career.

The No. 7 Vikings (16- 8 overall) advanced in the Div. IV playoffs with a win over No. 10 Ascenson Catholic (96-54) before falling to No. 2 Riverside Academy (73-48).

North Central’s Chris Cain was named District 5-1A Coach of the Year as the Hurricanes went 5-0 in district play and finished 21-5 overall.

No. 13 St. Edmund (15- 13) received a first round bye after No. 4 Southern Lab was forced to forfeit.

The Blue Jays were pushed from the Div. IV playoffs with a 92-53 loss to No. 5 Metarie Park Country Day.

No. 11 Sacred Heart (12-13) was pushed out of the playoffs in the first round as the Trojans lost 61-49 to No. 6 Central Catholic.

No. 12 Westminster Christian Academy (15- 11) lost in the first round to Metarie Park Country Day, 66-43.

Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (3-26) did not receive a playoff berth.

St. Edmund’s Kieran Davis joined Coleman on the all-district first team along with Austin Darbonne from Sacred Heart of Ville Platte.

North Central’s Derrick Tezeno and Reginal Stoner were also named to the all-district first team.

St. Ed’s Easten Coleman earned second team honors along with North Central’s Devion Lavergne and McKennis Savoy.

OC’s Caleb Rubin and Brennan Schwartz from Westminster Christian Academy also grabbed second team honors.

St. Ed’s Henry Brown earned All-Defensive team honors along with Breck Beaver from Sacred Heart, WCA’s Hunter Ray, Ben Jumonville from Catholic High of Pointe Coupee and OC’s Caleb Rubin.

Blue Jays Alex Fontenot and Luke Trahan were named to the Honorable Mention list along with Sacred Heart’s Sam Fontenot and Isaac Leger.

Ken Wiltz from Opelousas Catholic, Sean Spain and Xavier Redding from WCA along with North Central’s Aaron Johnson and Melchi Brue from CHPC complete the honorable mention selections.
