Lady Cats grab share of District 4-4A title

The Lady Bobcats were named District 4-4A cochampions as Eunice rolled to an 11-1 win over Washington-Marion.

Eunice (21-5, 7-1) split games with North Vermilion in the battle for the district championship.

It was the first district title for the Lady Cats since 2012.

Eunice is No. 7 in the Class 4-A power rankings and will host a first round playoff game.

The LHSAA will release the brackets on Friday.

Washington-Marion put its only run on the board in the top of the first when Kalei Lilly singled and scored on a ground out by Ashanti Carter.

Eunice responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning, begun when Sophie Vidrine doubled and scored on a passed ball.

Gabby Mitchell walked and also scored on a wild pitch to give the Lady Cats a 2-1 lead.

Olivia Thibodeaux singled and scored on a hit by Mckenzie Guillory.

Jailyn Pavich walked and courtesy runner Mallory O’Brien scored on a W-M error to push the Lady Cats ahead, 4-1.

Eunice added two runs in the bottom of the second as Alexis Ortego walked and Vidrine followed with a home run over the centerfield fence.

The Lady Cats increased their lead with two more runs in the third frame, begun when Pavich walked and courtesy runner Raegan Fontenot scored on a double by Alissa Pate.

Pate stole third and then scored on a ground out by Carli Boone to extend the Lady Cats’ lead to 8-1.

Eunice sealed the mercy-rule win with three runs in the fourth inning, begun when Ortego singled, advanced on consecutive passed balls and scored when Mitchell reached on an error.

Mitchell scored on a sacrifice by Guillory, while Thibodeaux singled and scored on a Lady Indian error to push Eunice ahead, 11-1.

Pavich earned the win as she struck out six ad allowed one earned run on three hits over five innings.

Eunice finished with six hits in the win, led by Vidrine (2-for-3, 2 RBIs), and Guillory (1-for-2, 3 RBIs).

Rainy weather forced the final two regular season games to be canceled.
