Lady Jays cruise on Senior Day

The Lady Jays celebrated Senior Day as St. Edmund cruised to a 15-1 win over the Crowley Ladies.

The Lady Jays broke a five-game losing streak with the victory and St. Ed’s concludes the regular season today at Westlake.

St. Edmund (14-7) is presently No.10 in the power rankings along with other District 5-1A teams: No. 1 Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (21-6), No. 8 Opelousas Catholic (14-11), No. 11 Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (16-9) and No. 17 Westminster Christian Academy (11-11).

The LHSAA will release the softball playoff brackets on Friday with the top 16 teams earning a berth.

In the win over Crowley, St. Edmund jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and the Lady Jays never looked back.

Kennedy Ardoin walked, Jenna Smith singled and two runs scored when Anna Belle Fontenot reached on an error.

Alice Brown walked and scored on a ground out by Rylie Johnson.

Elizabeth Mcgee reached on an error that allowed Fontenot to score as the Lady Jays pushed ahead, 4-0.

St. Edmund exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the second to extend the margin to 11-0.

Ardoin was hit by a pitch and courtesy runner Ellie Manuel scored when Smith reached on an error.

Brown was hit by a pitch before Fontenot blasted a line drive double off the centerfield wall to drive in two runs.

Fontenot scored on a singled by Sarah Duplechain to push the Lady Jays up 8-0.

Mcgee walked and crossed home plate when Rebecca Benoit reached on an error.

Duplechain scored on a sacrifice by Ardoin, while Benoit advanced home on a double by Smith.

St. Edmund added three more runs in the bottom of the third, begun when Fontenot doubled and scored when Mcgee reached on an error.

Jacey Cobb and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rebecca Benoit.

Mcgee advanced home when Lafleur reached on another Crowley error as the Lady Jays moved ahead, 14-0.

Crowley avoided the shutout when Makaya Damon walked and scored on a hit by Olivia Vincent in the top of the fourth inning.

The Lady Jays sealed the mercy-rule decision in the bottom of the inning when Fontenot reached on an error and scored when Cobb hit a double off the centerfield wall for a 15-1 advantage.

Ardoin earned the win for St. Ed’s as she struck out two and did not allow a hit over two innings.

Hannah Benoit pitched the final three innings with four strikeouts, a walk and allowed one earned run on two hits.

Fontenot finished 2-fof-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored to lead the Lady Jays.

Smith went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored, while Duplechain finished 2-for-2 with two walks, one RBI and one run scored.
