St. Ed’s wins on Senior Night

St. Edmund celebrated Senior Night with a sweep over Mamou.
The Lady Jays (8-4) downed Mamou (1-13) 48-35, while the Blue Jays (11-5) grabbed a 63-50 victory over the Green Demons (5-13).
St. Edmund travels to rival Sacred Heart of Ville Platte Friday.
In a low-scoring first quarter, Mamou held a 9-7 advantage.
Rebecca Benoit scored twice and Mary Beth Lafleur nailed a trey to keep St. Ed’s close.
The Lady Jay offense woke up in the second frame with an 18-4 surge.
Anna Belle Fontenot scored twice in the lane and Benoit added a three-point play to help push St. Edmund ahead 17-11.
Greta Miller hit a baseline jumper and Lafleur scored a three-point play to push the Lady Jays ahead 25-13 at intermission.
Mamou out-scored St. Ed’s 8-7 in the third quarter as the Lady Demons closed the gap to 11 points.
Benoit scored five points in the period to help the Lady Jays.
After a Mamou free throw to open the fourth quarter, Fontenot scored six straight points to push the Lady Jays ahead, 38-22.
Lafleur later scored on a lay-up and Fontenot added a put-back bucket midway through the period.
Mamou answered with an 8-2 run, as Savannah DeVillier scored in the lane for the Lady Jays.
Fontenot’s late four points helped seal St. Ed’s 48-35 win.
Benoit led the Lady Jays with 15 points, while Fontenot chipped in 14 points and Lafleur added 11 points.

St. Ed’s 63, Mamou 50
St. Edmund jumped out to a 20-6 first quarter lead as the Blue Jays downed Mamou, 63-50.
Easten Coleman scored the first SEH bucket, but Mamou answered with a trey by Desmond Skinner.
St. Ed’s then went on an 18-3 run as the Blue Jays begin to pull away.
Kieran Davis scored three times including a dunk, while Coleman added five points.
Luke Trahan scored in the lane and then hit a trey before Alex Fontenot’s shot at the buzzer gave the Jays a 20-6 advantage.
St. Edmund increased its lead with 10-4 second quarter run.
Trahan drilled a trey early in the period and Coleman added an inside bucket.
Mamou’s Devin Ardoin and Collin Enicke scored on back-to-back buckets to close the gap to 25-10.
Henry Brown drained a three-pointer and Coleman scored in the lane as the Jays took a 30-10 lead into intermission.
Davis scored eight points and Brown added a trey to help the Jays move ahead by 25 points early in the third period.
After a trey by Ardoin helped Mamou close the margin to 41-19, Trahan scored on a put-back bucket and Davis converted a three-point play.
Mamou went on an 8-2 run before drives in the lane by Nick Fontenot and Coleman increased the Jays’ lead to 52-25 as the game moved to the fourth quarter.
The Green Demons rallied with a 13-3 run to open the final period as Mamou closed the gap to 55-38.
A trey by Gus Brown was the only Blue Jay points in the period until a jumper by Coleman with 1:04 left in the game.
Jaquan Jack hit a trey for the Green Demons, while Tyrian Broussard scored eight points, Enicke chipped in seven and Ardoin added six points to help the Mamou surge.
Two free throws by Henry Brown in the closing seconds capped the 63-50 Blue Jay win.
Three St. Edmund players scored in double figures including Coleman (19 points), Davis (17 points) and Trahan (10 points).
Mamou was led by Ardoin’s 13 points, while Broussard chipped in 12 points and Enicke added 11 points.

SEH 51, N.C. 48
The Blue Jays held off a late Northside Christian rally as St. Edmund grabbed a 51-48 win over the Warriors.
Northside opened the game with a 14-10 advantage, sparked by eight points from Jaggar Thibodeaux.
Henry Brown helped keep St. Ed’s close with eight points in the period.
The Blue Jays outscored the Warriors 13-4 in the second period as SEH took a 23-18 margin into intermission.
Easten Coleman led the Jays with 10 points in the quarter.
St. Ed’s began the second half with a 14-8 run, aided by nine points from Coleman.
Trailing 37-26 as the game moved to the fourth quarter, Northside Christian scored 20 points in the final period to pull with in three points of a win.
NC’s Landen Istre scored seven points in the period to finish with 11 points,
St. Edmund pushed in 14 points in the period to seal the win, sparked by seven points from Coleman and four points by Alex Fontenot.
Coleman led all scorers with 27 points, while Brown chipped in 14 points.
Thibodeaux led the Warriors with 19 points.
